In November 2010 we unveiled Oh, Yes I Can - an artist-led design project marking the 75th anniversary season of Perth Theatre and the traditional family pantomime. This time the focus is Perth Youth Theatre - Horsecross Arts thriving and inclusive theatre company for young people aged 4 - 18 years with over 200 members. One of the most dynamic youth theatres in Scotland, which runs weekly workshops that teach about all aspects of theatre from acting to sound and lights! Perth Youth Theatre is highly regarded as one of Scotland’s leading youth theatres, creating exciting work for, and by, young people and setting high artistic standards. We encourage young people to take ownership of their work and in a wider sense to take responsibility for their actions and their futures. A young person-centred organisation we actively encourage input and decision making by the participants. The Horsecross Young Ambassadors is made up of a representative from each activity and age group and they meet monthly to discuss what their groups have been doing, fundraising and additional activities and trips. Perth Youth Theatre has expanded and evolved over the years. As well as drama, under the bracket of Join In, we now provide weekly singing activity through Horsecross Glee, the opportunity to learn and play instruments with the Gordon Duncan Experience and a Young writers group covering playwriting and song writing/composition. To celebrate Perth Youth Theatre and all those who have been members over the years the Horsecross Young Ambassadors have curated this exhibition of photo- graphs from past Youth Theatre productions through the years. Perth Youth Theatre is about the people who take part and the experiences they have. We would love to track down some former members to shed some light on what the group was like through the years and how their own lives have developed since. As well as learning personal stories it will also help us piece together some more information about the history of Perth Youth Theatre which we know has been active in the city for more than fifty years. If you have a story to share please get in touch. You can email [email protected] or telephone Christine Halsall on 01738 477 729. “Youth theatre is a great experience. A great way to meet people, a great way to practice techniques. The opportunity to take part in a performance was fantastic. Thank you!” Perth Youth Theatre Participant, 2010/11 You might also be interested to know a little more about our Transform Perth Theatre Project. Since the launch of Horsecross Arts in 2005 our Creative Learn- ing Team has significantly expanded our links with schools, young people, people with disabilities and vulnerable communities across Perth and Kinross; more than 80,000 adults and young people from all walks of life have taken part in our Creative Learning programme. We now can’t keep pace with demand and have outgrown our spaces. Our Transform Perth Theatre project will allow us to develop our role as Scotland’s Cultural Hub for Creative Learning in the Central Belt. Our plans include building three new Creative Learning spaces including a ground floor space to give us level access and a new space for Perth Youth Theatre, our theatre company for young people. Join In: Perth Youth Theatre Through the Years is the latest in our series of historical exhibitions at Threshold artspace celebrating the future of Perth Theatre as a new cultural and creative resource for Perthshire.

We would love to track down some former members to shed some light on what the group was like through the years and how their own lives have developed since.
