Welcome to the C&S Charities’ / C&S Wholesale Grocers’ Tee Up For Kids® 32nd annual golf fundraiser!

Each year we receive enthusiastic feedback from participants about how our event continues to get better. This happens because of a dedicated group of C&Sers who solicit the contributions, assist at the golf courses, set-up / take down the event, sell raffle tickets and help with the post-event dinners and check presentations. There is also a small group of C&Sers who administer the back office work for C&S Charities, Inc. and run our board. Lastly, we rely on Patricia Swift, Swift Planning, LLC, to work with the venues, oversee the registrations and handle the many details that make our golf outing run smoothly. It is this team who makes it all come together.

The real success, however, comes from you, our vendors, customers and suppliers, who generously contribute and partner with C&S Charities, Inc., C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. and our six non-profits known for their work addressing food insecurity, making strides in pediatric oncology or affording severely ill children the chance to be a kid at camp. Your feedback, participation and support of our event are what truly make the difference. In 2016, we presented checks totaling $1.7 million for these wonderful organizations. Thank you!

Last year was also noteworthy because we held a second golf event in South Carolina, in partnership with the Piggly Wiggly independent stores. We raised over $40,000 for the Lowcountry Food Bank’s BackPack program to provide children from low-income families with food during weekends and when school is not in session. While it will never be as big as our Tee Up For Kids® fundraiser, The South Carolina Piggly Wiggly Golf Classic will become a regular October event.

Several years ago, we added a sixth charity to be recognized and supported by our New England event. The charity had to be local (MA, NH or VT) and the non-profit had to fit within our charitable mission. This year, we are happy to support The New Hampshire Food Bank to help strengthen its work with children in the Southwestern region of the state.

We are proud that C&S Charities embodies the five point C&S Wholesale Grocers’ vision of (1) braggingly happycustomers; (2) braggingly happy team members; (3) quality in everything we do; (4) everyone involved in everything; and (5) have fun in the process.

great causes Childhood Hunger

43 million Americans—including 13 million children live in households that lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. As a result, they struggle with hunger at some time during the year.

1 in 6 kids in America doesn’t get the food they need every day. This takes a terrible toll on their health and development, and threatens their futures in profound ways. It also drags down our nation’s economy by perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

Pediatric Cancer

More than 10,000 children in the United States under the age of 15 were diagnosed with cancer last year.

After accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children.

Due to advances in treatment, more than 80% of children with cancer survive 5 years or more.

Course Information:

This highly regarded Roger Rulewich (formerly of Robert Trent Jones, Inc.) designed Berkshire golf course started in

1977 as a nine hole Pine Valley type course. In 1987, William Sandri acquired the course and reengaged Mr. Rulewich

to rejuvenate the existing holes and expand it to a full 18 hole course. At 7,007 yards from the longest tees, this 72 par

course is thought to be the most challenging in Western Massachusetts.

Crumpin-Fox remodeled its golf course in 2016 to improve turf conditions and remove trees to improve playability and

challenge. The Crumpin-Fox experience was further enhanced with renovations to the clubhouse and the addition

of a new fleet of electric golf carts with Visage GPS. So, if you have not played Crumpin-Fox in a few years, you may

want to consider it!

Course Information:

The private Keene Country Club extends its hospitality to C&S and you by opening its 6,445 yard, par 72 golf

course for the Tee Up for Kids® event. This 1923 course stays true to Wayne Stiles’ design. Prior to becoming a

prolific golf course designer (over 140 golf courses across the United States), Mr. Stiles was a landscape architect.

He applied that training and knowledge to his design approach of using the existing topography, finding his green

sites first and building the course around them. The Keene Country Club course has all the traits that are expected

from a Stiles-designed course. To summarize a 2008 New York Times article on forgotten golf course architects, a

Stiles’ course balances playability with challenge. “The greens commonly have false fronts and sneaky putting

surfaces with devilish contours. Fairways are often slanted in the same direction as the green, adding a double

challenge to an approach shot. . . . Only those positioned in the right place will have any chance at par.”

The Mount Snow Golf Course is recognized as one of Vermont’s top five courses by Golf Digest and named a top ten

resort course by SKI Magazine. Sitting 2,000 feet above sea level, this 18-hole championship course provides breath-

taking views of the Green Mountains and incorporates the beauty of Vermont into every hole. This 6,894 yard, par 72

course challenges golfers through the use of water hazards on 11 holes and the strategic placement of 41 sand traps.

Designed by award-winning New England course architect Geoffrey Cornish (referred to as “the master of New England

golf courses”) it is a favorite of Tee Up for Kids® participants.

May I direct my contribution or pick which of the sponsored non-profit organization’s program to support? • By contributing to C&S Charities, Inc. you agree that there is no restriction, designation or limitation on your donation. The money raised through this event is used to support C&S Charities and the organizations we sponsor. Accordingly, restriction, designation or limitation language associated with your donation will not be honored; unless, there is prior written approval from the President of C&S Charities, Inc.

May I send my contribution directly to one or more of the event’s supported charities? • No. We rely on donations coming to C&S Charities, Inc. in determining the final contribution amount given to each charity about a week before the event. C&S Charities, Inc. is an IRC recognized non-profit / IRC § 501(c)(3) organization. Thus, your contribution is deductible in accordance with federal and state tax law just as if the contribution was made directly to the supported non-profit. What is the value of entertainment, food and gifts that are included in in my sponsorship? • The good faith valuation of the non-deductible portion of your contribution or quid pro quo is expected to be $500 per golfer or $2,000 per foursome. Food is valued at about $150 per person.

Promotion can be through all types of media, including website, print and video.

What is the “2 Putt Pick Up” Rule? • To speed-up the game, there is a two putt maximum on any green. If your team’s first putt does not fall into the hole, pick up the ball and call it two putts. Putts from the fringe or off the green do not count. Golf balls must be on the actual surface of the green. How do I submit my company’s logo for signage, etc.? • Please send your logo to Lila Reddy at [email protected] no later than Friday, June 10th. Files should be sent as high resolution in .jpg, .tif, .pdf or .eps format. Please contact Lila Reddy at (802) 275-5181 ext. 301 with any logo submission or program booklet questions.

I hear that there is a great raffle held during the post-game dinner. Can I buy raffle tickets using a credit or debit card? • Yes. To test the concept and respond to demand from past events, we will be using Square services to accept both credit and debit cards at the Vermont and New Hampshire venues only. A $2 convenience charge will be applied to offset our processing fees. We are not able to accept credit card payments at the Massachusetts venue at this time
