PASCHAL CANDLE

The Paschal Candle is a symbol of the risen Christ in our midst and is a primary Easter symbol throughout the fifty days of this Holy Season. After the feast of Pentecost, it is used at the celebration of all baptisms and funerals. The Paschal

Candle is a reminder that Christ is our Light from birth

until death, when we will see God face to face and

are caught up in God’s light and love for all eternity. Our thanks to those who so generously donated toward this year’s Paschal Candle.

In Loving Memory Of:

Charlene Kapusta from her husband, Dr. Martin Kapusta, Jr.

Carlo Bisignani from his wife, Tish Bisignani

Marjorie George from her loving friends

Russell Holmberg from his loving family

Joseph and Marie Timko from James and Jacqueline Timko

Aunt Mary E. Polinelli from her nephew, Mark Sternick

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls rest in peace.

A very special “thank you” to everyone who gave of their time and talent toward the preparation of our worship spaces during Holy Week and Easter. Your willingness to be a part of your parish and your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Today we celebrate Easter Sunday, the pivotal Feast of the entire Church year. It is our opportunity to give a renewed perspective to the whole of our life. Often as we find ourselves confronted by death, sickness and inequity of every kind we find ourselves saying, “It’s just not fair.” We wonder how “good” people seem so often to end up in worse shape than the “bad.” We might even wonder what we, or others we love have done wrong to deserve this kind of “treatment” from God in this life. Often we cannot make sense of it.

On Good Friday as we envisioned Jesus on the cross we could not help but realize that he too did not live the easy life. Indeed, bad things happened to him! We wonder how a loving God could have put his own Son into that terrible position. Even more importantly, we wonder how Jesus kept his love of the Father intact through it all.

Ultimately, I think it is about his vision. Easter is the Feast which asks us to see our life from a different perspective. It is primarily about trust in the promises of God. It is the Feast that reveals to us that there is actually more to life than meets the eye. Jesus believed with his whole being that his Father would take care of Him. His trust in the care that His Father gave Him is often so different from our understanding of God’s care. If we are honest we often define “proof” of the Father’s care for us as a world where nothing bad will ever happen to us or our friends, and everyone will be happy and safe without any difficulty or fear, and then die peacefully in their sleep at age 110. That is just not the case.

Jesus came to show us that the Father’s care is for our eternal soul. We read in Matthew 10:28; "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” God’s concern is that we be happy for all eternity in the kingdom of heaven. What happens here on earth is a part of the broken human condition. Jesus suffered and died to prove to us that even death cannot take away our spirit and life. Jesus’ resurrection is evidence for all believers that there is something beyond the veil of death. Not all is made whole in this life and ultimately, something better than we ever imagined will happen to us when our time here is over. The Feast of Easter shouts out to us that it is eternal life that awaits us. Beyond death, there is no more sadness, no more pain, and no more fear. As we celebrate this Feast let us find that promise of joy in the midst of everything we are confronted with in the world.

In conclusion, I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this Lent and Easter so beautiful and meaningful. This list is long and includes Bishop Malesic, Fr. Matthew, Deacon Bill, our parish staff, all of our ministers, choir, ushers, servers and everyone who decorated and who attended our services to share her or his faith as the Body of Christ gathered together. We truly have had a blessed season of prayer and praise.

Happy Easter!

Msgr. Ray

Easter Blessings To All!

Keeping in our prayers and trusting that God will bring to her comfort in the days ahead, we commend

to your prayer the soul of :

Catherine J. Bisignani

Know that the Lord has welcomed our loved one into the home of Heaven. Our parish community extends its deepest sympathies to her family on their loss.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

May her soul rest in peace. Amen.

F aith is not knowing what the future holds, But knowing who holds the future.

Have a Blessed Easter!

We did it! As of April 8, 2019 our Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Diocesan Lenten Appeal total - both pledged and received is $122,642.00. Since our 2019 Diocesan goal is $100,829 this means we are already $21,813 over that goal. You might recall that we would like to raise $95,000 over our Diocesan goal for use in our parish. We are only $73,000 away from that total. The great news is that, at this point, every dollar given to the DLA will be returned to our parish assessment free! If you have not yet made your 2019 DLA pledge to Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, please prayerfully discern your gift and return your pledge card at Mass next weekend or send it into the Parish Office. In addition, you can make your pledge online at DLA.dioceseofgreensburg.org. Our DLA donation total will appear in future bulletins to let you know your dollars are hard at work!

God Bless You For Your Continued Support!

We have reached our DLA goal!!
