Step-by-Step Instructions for Admission.

1. Fully complete the International Student Application for Admission. Please makesure that all your documents bear your name exactly as written in your passport andacademic records.

2. Fully complete the Certificate of Financial Responsibility. Study for one academicyear (10 months) or longer requires a minimum of $20,000 U.S. per year (documentationfor the first year only is required). Study for one semester requires a minimum of $10,000.Students studying only for short periods need to pay in advance for each month of study.

Estimated Individual Student Costs per year (40 weeks):Tuition & Fees (2 semesters) = $ 8,000Health Insurance* = $ 1,000Textbooks & Supplies = $ 1,000Room, Meals, etc. = $ 9,000Personal Expenses = $ 1,000

(Also includes: refundable security deposit and utilities)

*Health insurance coverage is mandatory. Students will purchase a College recommendedplan upon enrollment.

If a student wishes to have family members (spouse or children) accompany them, thefollowing additional amounts must be included in the financial support: $3,000 per yearfor spouse; $1,500 per year for each child. Please write a separate note to include with theapplication if dependents will accompany the student. The name, date of birth and genderof each dependent must be listed in the letter.

3. Enclose all required documents as specified in their original form or as certified copies.Documents must be written in English or be official certified translations.

4. Submit original TOEFL scores if applicable. The campus TOEFL code for FMC is 2254.Students are NOT required to submit a TOEFL score. The information can be helpful thoughif scores are available. Students without a TOEFL score of 61 or higher on the internetbased test (or equivalent) will be tested upon arrival for appropriate English studies.

5. Enclose the completed and verified Student Immunization Record Form — only requiredfor students studying for a semester or longer. Can be sent later as it is required forenrollment — not admission.*

6. If you are currently studying in the United States, please have your current InternationalStudent Advisor submit the Foreign Student Transfer Form.* You should also send all otherdocuments as stated on the application form.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. If an application is received less than 4-6 weeksbefore the term begins, consideration for admission for that term can not be guaranteed.Applications received late will be considered for the next session unless otherwise indicated.

We’re Here for You—and Your Success.At FM we are committed to helping you reach your educational goals. We do this bycreating an informal but respectful relationship between students and teachers, arelationship that promotes both learning and personal adjustment to a new environment.Teaching and advising are our most important activities. We are a small institutionand you will be treated as an individual, benefiting from a student/faculty ration of20 to 1. Nearly 150 international students, representing 20 countries, are enrolledannually, making up five percent of the college population.

You Can Get There from Here: Transferring fora Four-Year Degree.When you graduate, you have the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at analmost unlimited choice of institutions. Students have continued their studies atuniversities within New York State, such as The State University of New York at Albany,SUNY Plattsburgh, Syracuse University, City University of New York (CUNY) and manyothers, as well as colleges out of the state, such as Florida State University or theUniversity at Berkley.

English as a Second Language (ESL).FM offers a full-time Intensive English Language Program for students who need toimprove their language ability before beginning a college degree or certificateprogram. The program is also intended for those who want to study English for careeror social purposes before returning to their countries. Students receive 20 to 25 hoursof instruction each week. On arrival, a free English placement exam is given todetermine the level of English study you will need.

Combined ESL and Degree Program Admission.If you intend to continue studies on the FM campus after ESLstudy, single admission can be granted for the English LanguageProgram and an academic degree or certificate program.Admission as a full-time student to an academic program iscontingent on the successful completion of the ESL Program. Therequired TOEFL score of 61 on the internet based test (or 500 onthe paper based test) is waived when the dual admission optionis chosen and the ESL Program is successfully completed.

FM Accreditation.Fulton-Montgomery Community College is a unit of the StateUniversity of New York, the largest public university system inthe world. It is accredited by the Middle State Association ofColleges and Secondary Schools and its programs are super-vised by the New York State Department of Education.

Challenging and Supportive, too.At FM, students are encouraged to discover their individual talents and abilities.In the classroom, you will encounter a disciplined course of study with the supportof professors and the camaraderie of peers. You can expect to enjoy learning ina setting that is always challenging but never intimidating. At FM, education is alesson in interaction, in discovering not what to think, but how to think.

Great Location.FM is situated in the small, rural and historic community ofJohnstown, New York, approximately 65 km from the statecapital, Albany. Upstate location offers a convenient four-hourdrive to Montreal, Canada, New York City and Boston.Our beautiful setting offers you a healthy environment foryour studies. Four seasons are enjoyed on the campus, withaverage temperatures of -5C in January and 25C in July.

Excellent Facilities.The FM campus includes a classroom building, an extensive library and media center,television production and art studios, a modern gymnasium and athletic facilities,including soccer and baseball fields and official size swimming pool. The collegehas state-of-the-art computer labs, a professional kitchen, theatre and otherteaching and learning facilities.

Friendly and Fun.The Student Activities Board plansmany campus events, includingcultural, social, educational andrecreational activities. You mayalso participate in any of thecollege’s dozens of clubs andorganizations. The campus environment is small and intimate, yet active andspirited. You will have the chance to get involved and make a difference. Besidesleaving here with a degree, you will leave with friends.
