ENTRANCE HYMN
Tune: Billing
raise to the Holiest in the height,
And in the depth be praise;
In all his words most wonderful,
Most sure in all his ways!
2. O loving wisdom of our God!
When all was sin and shame,
A second Adam to the fight
And to the rescue came.
3. O wisest love! that flesh and blood,
Which did in Adam fail,
Should strive afresh against the foe,
Should strive, and should prevail;
4. And that the highest gift of grace
Should flesh and blood refine:
God’s presence and his very self,
And essence all-divine.
5. O generous love! that he who smote
In man for man the foe,
The double agony in Man
For man should undergo.
6. And in the garden secretly,
And on the cross on high,
Should teach his brethren, and inspire
To suffer and to die.
7. Praise to the Holiest in the height,
And in the depth be praise;
In all his words most wonderful,
Most sure in all his ways!

INTRODUCTORY RITES
The Celebrant introduces today’s liturgy.
THE COLLECT
Grant, we pray, O Lord,
that the soul of JOHN, your servant and Priest,
whom you honoured with sacred office
while he lived in this world,
may exult for ever in the glorious home of heaven.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
SIT
FIRST READING, read by Adrian Mann Apocalypse 7: 9, 14-17
Formerly Director of the Anglican Stewardship Association
A reading from the book of the Apocalypse
I, John, saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every
nation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the
throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding
palms in their hands. One of the elders said, ‘These are the people who
have been through the great persecution, and because they have washed
their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb, they now stand in
front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his sanctuary; and
the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. They
will never hunger or thirst again; neither the sun nor scorching wind
will ever plague them, because the Lamb who is at the throne will be
their shepherd and will lead them to springs of living water; and God
will wipe away all tears from their eyes.’
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

I know them and they follow me.
I give them eternal life;
they will never be lost
and no one will ever steal them from me.

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
As the gifts of Bread and Wine are presented and the altar is prepared
we STAND and sing:
the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am Lord, is it I Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
2. I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have born my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them,
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them,
Whom shall I send?
3. I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them,
Whom shall I send?
Pray, my brothers and sisters,
that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good, and the good of all his holy Church.

After the Lord’s words are said over the bread and the cup
we use the following response:
The Mystery of Faith.
he three sad days are quickly sped,
He rises glorious from the dead:
All glory to our risen Head!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
The Celebrant continues with the Eucharistic Prayer and ends:
…for ever and ever.
Amen.

COMMUNION RITE
THE LORD’S PRAYER STAND
At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours now and for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your apostles:
peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will,
who live and reign for ever and ever.
Amen.

COMMUNION
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sin of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
When offered the Host and the Chalice
or when given a blessing the response is always:
Amen.
DURING HOLY COMMUNION
od moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform:
He plants his footsteps in the sea,
And rides upon the storm.
2. Deep in unfathomable mines,
With never-failing skill,
He treasures up his bright designs,
And works his sovereign will.
3. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy, and shall break
In blessings on your head.
4. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust him for his grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
5. His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour:
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.
6. Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.

tune: Hornsea
n the resurrection morning,
Soul and body meet again,
No more sorrow, no more weeping,
No more pain.
2. Here awhile they must be parted,
And the flesh its sabbath keep,
Waiting in a holy stillness,
Wrapped in sleep.
3. For a space the tirèd body
Lies with feet toward the morn;
Till there breaks the last and brightest
Easter morn.
4. But the soul in contemplation,
Utters earnest prayer and strong,
Bursting at the resurrection
Into song.
5. Soul and body reunited
Thenceforth nothing shall divide,
Waking up in Christ’s own likeness
Satisfied.
6. O the beauty, O the gladness
Of that resurrection day,
Which shall not through endless ages
Pass away!
7. On that happy Easter morning
All the graves their dead restore,
Father, sister, child and mother,
Meet once more.
8. To that brightest of all meetings
Bring us, Jesus Christ, at last,
By thy cross,
through death and judgment,
Holding fast.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

FINAL COMMENDATION
Before we go our separate ways, let us take leave of our Brother.
May our farewell express our affection for him;
may it ease our sadness and strengthen our hope.
One day we shall joyfully greet him again when the love of Christ,
which conquers all things, destroys even death itself.
The coffin is sprinkled once again with holy water
as a reminder of Fr John’s baptism and the new life he now shares with Christ.
The body is also honoured with incense
as a reminder of our prayers and the presence of God.
As this is done the Schola sing the Song of Farewell. Please join in the Refrain.
ay the choirs of angels come to greet you.
May they speed you to paradise.
May the Lord enfold you in his mercy.
May you find eternal life.
THE PRAYER OF COMMENDATION
In peace let us take Fr John to his final place of rest.

As the coffin is borne out of the Church we sing:
ove’s redeeming work is done,
Fought the fight, the battle won.
Lo, our Sun’s eclipse is o’er!
Lo, he sets in blood no more!
2. Vain the stone, the watch, the seal!
Christ has burst the gates of hell;
Death in vain forbids him rise;
Christ has opened paradise.
3. Lives again our glorious King;
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
Dying once, he all doth save;
Where thy victory, O grave?
4. Soar we now where Christ has led,
Following out exalted Head;
Made like him, like him we rise,
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.
5. Hail the Lord of earth and heaven!
Praise to thee by both be given:
Thee we greet triumphant now;
Hail, the Resurrection thou!
Following the service there will be a private interment at Teddington Cemetery.
