CHILDREN’S ARTS

FESTIVAL On August 10th I had the pleasure

of participating in the annual children's art

festival held by Paramount Picture

Studios. Tying balloons, setting up tables,

and passing out flyers may seem like

tedious work, but really seeing the smile

on all the children's faces makes it worth

while. We got to meet some really cool

people and worked with other volunteers

who made this event happen. It was my

first time participating in this event, and I

have to say it taught me a lot about

appreciating your community and the hard

work behind the scenes that is required to

give your family an event to remember.

HEAL THE BAY

The  Division  Beach  Clean-‐Up  started  on  a  warm  Saturday  morning  filled  with  new  and  familiar  faces.  On  arrival  I  knew  we  were  going  to  have  a  blast.  The  moment  we  stepped  foot  in  the  sand  we  established  our  head  quarters  and  began  our  two-‐mile  walk  to  make  Santa  Monica  even  more  beautiful.  After  the  two-‐mile  walk,  we  gathered  as  a  division  to  hold  out  monthly  Division  Council  Meeting  where  I  presented  the  club  report  for  John  Marshall  and  our  school  was  awarded  Club  of  the  Month  by  the  Division  Leadership  Team!  After  other  awards  were  given,  I  assisted  in  teaching/leading  the  cheers  that  our  division  plans  on  using  for  this  year's  Fall  Rally  South.  Afterwards,  I  enjoyed  the  rest  of  the  day  at  the  beach  celebrating  a  close  friend's  birthday,  socializing,  and  swimming  until  it  was  time  to  go  home  and  look  forward  to  the  next  division  event.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Arbyn Olarte

Congratulations to Arbyn Olarte for earning the Member of the Month award for August! This month, Arbyn has done a great deal of attendance to events while enduring the challenges of Lieutenant Governor for Division 3 South. As summer is nearing its end, Arbyn managed to fulfill his academic responsibilities while not only maintaining a healthy social life but also one full of service. School has just begun therefore the academic duties of a student are under the spotlight, especially since Arbyn has just entered the most crucial year of high school. Throughout summer assignments and event planning he manages to remain a steady figure amongst the division and region. Furthermore, Arbyn has revealed his mastery of inclusiveness at events such as Division 3 South’s second Beach Clean-Up (through Heal the Bay). Those of John Marshall’s Key Club congratulate and thank Arbyn for his admiral duties and dedication for the month of August and month’s prior.

OFFICER OF THE MONTH

8

Congratulations to Ernestine Hong for earning the Officer of the Month award for August. This month, Ernestine has exemplified great work ethic as the school year began. This month Ernestine attended events such as the 29th Annual Children’s Festival of the Arts where she graciously assisted the Hollywood Arts Council with the coherency of the event, such as preparing balloons for the children and small errands to someone’s car. Furthermore, she represented John Marshall’s club at the Division’s second Heal the Bay Beach Clean-. In addition, Ernestine shared her experience with Club President, Janine Raymundo, at John Marshall’s first club meeting. With school just beginning, service never sleeps as she assisted in advertising the club’s first meeting by “pinning” random students on campus with clothes pins containing the date and time for weekly meetings. Lastly, throughout summer, Ernestine managed to balance her volleyball career with service and led an exemplary model for other members.
