What are your budgetpriorities?
Have a question aboutwhere the money goes?
The Toronto CatholicDistrict School Board
invites parents, students, staff and Catholic school
supporters to participate inthe consultation process
for the 2013-2014 budget.
Those who wish to make apresentation to the Boardof Trustees to highlight
their budget priorities andconcerns are invited to do
so at a special Boardmeeting set for
. at theCatholic Education Centre.
May 7that 7:00 p.m
Despite funding from the government increasing over the years to supportinitiatives like smaller class sizes, increased staff salaries andimplementation of full-day kindergarten, we continue to experiencechallenges balancing our budget. By law, all school boards must have abalanced budget. We have been fortunate to have small surpluses for thelast few years.
One of the primary functions of the Board of Trustees is defining and settingpolicy. The Board of Trustees has engaged in an policy review attempting toreview all our major policies by November of 2014.
Policy is important because it sets limitations, expectations and consistent actionsin the school Board’s operations. All school board employees are bound by policy.Keep in mind that all policy items may be appealed to the Board of Trustees.
Some of the policy that the Trustees have been dealing with recently that is likelyto affect you or your children.
BULLYING POLICY: This defines the procedures to be used in dealing withbullying prevention and investigation.SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION REVIEW: Sets the process to be used whenlooking at school closures, relocations and consolidations.FUND-RAISING POLICY: Defines the limits on fund-raising and processes aroundtransparency and reporting to school communities.

Kicking off the week isthe March for Life Rally on Parliament Hill inOttawa. School Building Additions Coming Soon
In Our Community....
TRUSTEE REPORT : JOHN DEL GRANDE - WARD 7 [Spring 2013]
With the continued roll out of Full Day Kindergarten, a number of schools require additions orretrofits in order to accommodate the additional classrooms required.
OUR LADY OF WISDOM CS $2.4 million Classroom retrofit & classroom additionsST. KEVIN CS $880,000 Classroom additionST. AGNES CS $770,00 Classroom additionHOLY SPIRIT CS $1.3 million Classroom addition
For these schools projects the intention was to maximize the addition tothe school in order to potentially eliminate on-site portables over the next few years.
The difference in budget between what the Ministry of Education would fund was paid fromvarious land/school sales we have made recently.
SCHOOL BUDGET PROJECT WORK_________________
St. Joseph Morrow Park - Replacement Site Purchase Finalized
$3.4 million to be spent on Ward 7 School Renewal
At the end of March, the Toronto District School Board finalized the sale of the former Cummer LINC(500 Cummer Avenue) to our Board for the purposes of building the replacement St. Joseph MorrowPark school. This property is a 5 acre site on the north-west corner of Bayview Ave & Cummer Ave.
I trust this will assist with high school choices for families over the next two years, as now there shouldbe no doubt where the school will currently be (continue to lease at its current site) and the new school
will be.
I look forward to communityinput into the design andassociated activities until thenew school is ready foroccupancy potentially by the2015-2016 school year.

The Fraser Reportpublishes school rankings in
order to provide data toprospective students and
parents.
Congratulations to Ward 7school -- Mary Ward thatscored 7.9 out of 10. This
ranked in the top 15% of theprovince.
The “self-learning” programat the school is one of a few
across the country.
I have been trying todesignate Mary Ward asanofficial magnet school with
additional campuses toexpand its size so more
children have an opportunityto experience it as well asrecognizing the program is
not for everyone and forsurrounding elementary
schools to ensure they haveadequate options.
Every one of our schools isa great school and its staff, student body and array of
programs make everyschool unique.
