Our focus on math, writing and perseverance will continue. Im thrilled to continue my leadership career as your principal at John Campbell Public School. I have been an educator for just over twenty years, and I absolutely love what I do. Ive worked in elementary schools in both the city and the county, in small schools with about 300 students, to large schools with over 1000 students! Each school is unique and it is always a joy to know the people inside it. I am excited to build relationships and get to know everyone here. The most important things you need to know about me are that I love to learn and I love kids. My expectations for students are the same as for my own children. I want students to work hard and do their best, I want them to be kind, and I want them to have fun at school. What I have learned so far is that the staff at this school are dedicated to ensuring success for your children. I am fortu- nate to have the opportunity to lead alongside the staff at this school. 2M Creates Sweet Houses! Ms. Mathias and her grade 2 students welcomed families to participate in building and decorating gingerbread houses for the holidays. Children, with the help of parents and grandparents, dis-played both creativity and construction talents, as they created sweet treats to take home. No Grinches allowed on this day!

A Big “Woof and Meow” for Kindergarten Chores for Charity

Children in Mrs. Mackenzie/Mrs. Orlando’s and Ms. Taba’s Kindergarten classes put their kindness thinking caps on and brain-stormed charities to which they would like to contribute. Overwhelmingly, the Windsor-Essex Humane Society was their choice. Students did chores both in the classroom and at home to raise funds and they worked very hard to contribute over $140.00! Repre-sentatives from the Humane Society were present to receive the cheque at our recent Student of the Month assembly and were grateful for the students’ efforts and kindness. Our Campbell Cougars demonstrated that even small deeds by our youngest learners can make a big impact.

Concert Celebration

Farewell and Thank You Mr. Huggard It was a bittersweet farewell to our beloved Mr. Huggard at our recent assembly. After four and a half years at John Campbell P.S, he is moving to Jack Miner P.S. Students and staff from JK-Grade 8 expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Huggard for his dedication, knowledge, professionalism, but most importantly, his kindness and integrity. Students, staff, and parents presented him with a poster, a choral reading, a student signed tie, an album, a video, a gift basket, and a captain’s hat and binoculars (perfect for bird watching at Jack Miner’s or sailing on the Ferry to visit Pelee Island P.S.). We wish him good luck, good health, and good learning in his new position. He will be dearly missed.

Hail to the Victors! Congrats to our Girls and Boys Volleyball Team Members!

Our volleyball athletes not only did very well in league play for their respective teams this season, but truly demonstrated teamwork by winning the recent Herman Academy Co-ed Tournament. Our girls and boys collaborated to get to the net, volley for points, and ultimately take first place. Much thanks to all the players who showed exemplary sportsmanship as well as to the coaches Mme. Mastromatteo, Mrs. Dixon, Mr. Campbell, Ms. Taba, Mrs. Mackenzie and Mr. Huggard.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminder Just a reminder, when dropping off or picking up your child, to use one of the des-ignated areas. Before and after school, when picking up or dropping off, please do so on the asphalt on the back playground, the kiss and ride area, or the designated Kindergarten area outside. If you are picking up your child early for an appointment, please remember to check in at the office, sign out your child and wait at the office while we call down your child. Thank you for support to create a safe environment for our students!

Early On Pre-School Centre

The Early On Pre-School Learning Centre is a wonderful place for pre-school children, parents and caregivers. The Centre is open each day from 8:30 to 12:30. Each day there is a healthy snack and a learning circle. This FREE drop in program allows parents and caregivers to stay and play for as long or as little as they want during program hours. Please join them during the month of January for a variety of exciting learning opportunities and exciting events with your child. ~ Mrs. Salvador

Infection Prevention: Tips to Avoid Getting Sick Germs can easily spread through many different ways, such as: When someone who is sick, coughs or sneezes into the air; Through direct contact with someone who is sick; By touching a contaminated surface or object; By eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water; Through animals and insects, such as dogs and mosquitoes. A person who is sick can sometimes spread their germs to others before they even show symptoms.

Here are some simple tips to avoid getting sick.

Cleaning your hands is the best way to stop the spread of infection. Your hands can carry germs that you may not be able to see. Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 15 seconds. Give children time to wash their hands. Use hand sanitizers if soap and water are not availa-ble. For hand sanitizers, rub your hands together until the product evaporates. Clean your hands often, such as before and after eating, before and after preparing food, after petting an animal, and after using the bathroom. Use a moisturizing lotion if skin dryness is a problem. Your skin protects you against germs, which can enter your body through cuts on your skin. Avoid touching your face, such as your eyes, nose, or mouth, because that is where germs on your hancan enter your body.

Regularly clean and disinfect “high-touch” surfaces and objects. These are surfaces that people often touch, such as door knobs, light switches, and diaper changing areas. Some germs can live on surfaces for a long time, and be carried by your hand when you touch the surface. Follow the cleaning instructions on your cleaning products.

Stay at home if you are sick, so you do not spread the illness to others.

Sneeze or cough into a tissue or into your arm to prevent spreading germs to others.

Practice safe food handling. Food can become contaminated by germs. Wash all uncooked fruits and vegetables in clean water. Store and cook your food properly and to the right temperature, using a probe thermometer. Do not let your raw foods touch your ready-to-eat food. Try to use separate cutting boards for raw and cooked meats. Avoid preparing food if you are sick.

Do not share personal items, such as hairbrushes, toothbrushes, cups, water bottles, utensils, and razors. Some germs can pass through saliva and blood. Wash dishes in soap and water after use.

Stay away from wild animals and protect yourself against insects, such as mosquitoes and ticks. Some animals and insects can carry germs that can make you seriously ill.

Get vaccinated. Make sure you and your family are up-to-date on their vaccinations and get the annual flu vaccine. Vaccines help your body fight some germs better when you are exposed to the germs after-wards.

Stay active and make healthy food choices. Doing so makes your body stronger, so that it can better fight off germs and prevent infections.
