John 8:1,2

(ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.) But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them.

John 8:3-5

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?”

Page 3: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:6

They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

Page 4: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:7

But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Page 5: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:8,9

Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.

Page 6: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:10,11

Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.”

Page 7: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:12

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Page 8: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:13,14

The Pharisees replied, “You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid.” Jesus told them, “These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me.

Page 9: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:15,16 MSG:

You decide according to what you can see and touch. I don’t make judgments like that. But even if I did, my judgment would be true because I wouldn’t make it out of the narrowness of my experience but in the largeness of the One who sent me, the Father.

Page 10: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:17,18

Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”

Page 11: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8: 19

So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.”

Page 12: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:20

These words He spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

Page 13: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:21,22

Then He said again to them, “I go away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.” So the Jews were saying, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”

Page 14: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:23

And He was saying to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.

MSG: Jesus said, “You’re tied down to the mundane; I’m in touch with what is beyond your horizons. You live in terms of what you see and touch. I’m living on other terms.

Page 15: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:24,25

That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.” “Who are you?” they demanded. Jesus replied, “The one I have always claimed to be.

Page 16: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:26,27

I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won’t. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is completely truthful.” But they still didn’t understand that he was talking about his Father.

Page 17: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:28-30

So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me. And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” As He spoke these things, many came to believe in Him.

Page 18: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:31,32

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Page 19: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:33

They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

Page 20: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:34-36

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

Page 21: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:37,38

Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.

I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father.”

Page 22: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:39-41

“Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. No, you are imitating your real father.”They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.”

Page 23: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

Gal. 3:29

And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

Page 24: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:42-44

Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Page 25: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:45-47

So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”

Page 26: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:48-51

The people retorted, “You Samaritan devil! Didn’t we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?” “No,” Jesus said, “I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father—and you dishonor me. And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God is going to glorify me. He is the true judge. I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!”

Page 27: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:52,53

The people said, “Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, ‘Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!’ Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”

Page 28: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:54,55

Jesus answered, “If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, ‘He is our God,’ but you don’t even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But I do know him and obey him.

Page 29: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:56,57

Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad.” The people said, “You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?”

Page 30: John 8:1,2 (ch 7:53 Everyone went to his home.)

John 8:58,59

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I Am!” At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.
