If you are interested in

sharing ideas about a New Plan for funding

and scheduling teams to support and activate the Repast Ministry, you are invited to a meeting on Thursday, April 30th, 2015 in the Spiritual

Center at 6:00 pm.

A NEW PLAN

My dear Parishioners,

Today, “Good Shepherd Sunday,” is World Day of Prayer

for Vocations. While every person has a vocation, a calling

from God to follow Jesus in a particular way, the focus to-

day is on the priesthood and consecrated (rel igious) li fe .

I would like to share some thoughts with you on the priest-

hood. The people of this Archdiocese are served by two different

types of priests; “secular” and “religious.” The majority of

priests not only here but throughout the world are “secular”

priests. They are ordained to serve the pastoral needs of

God’s people in a particular arch/diocese. Normally, they

remain in the diocese of their ordination for the greater part

of their life, “Religious” priests, on the other hand, are or-

dained for service to the universal church. Like secular

priests, they are ordained by a bishop, but depending on the

particular “charism” of their religious community, they may

be assigned by their superiors as home or overseas mission-

aries, educators, preachers, advocates, and pastors. Reli-

gious priests serve in parishes in those areas where there are

not enough secular priests. Unlike secular priests, religious

priests take the three vows of obedience, poverty and chas-

tity several years before they are ordained. Secular priests,

at their ordination, promise obedience to their bishop and his successors, and in accord with Roman Catholic church

law, are required to remain celibate. They do not take a vow

of poverty. While secular priests must often live alone, reli-

gious priests live in community and, if circumstances de-

mand that they live alone, they must have the permission of

their superiors to do so. The shared priestly brotherhood enables both secular and

religious priests to work together harmoniously in building

up the kingdom of God. While there seems to be many

priests in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, such is not the case.

Given the growth of the Catholic population in central and

northern Georgia, the proportionate number of priests is

shrinking. All the more reason to pray fervently for voca-

tions to the priesthood not just today, but every day.

Fr. Jerome, C.P.

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

Many dioceses right here in the

United States do not have

enough priests and trained lay

ministers to serve their parishes.

These dioceses are known as

home missions. The Catholic

Home Missions Appeal will take

place this weekend in the second

collection, and supports these

dioceses by funding essential

ministries, including seminary

education and lay ministry

training. Please be generous

in this appeal and share your

resources to strengthen the

Church at home.

Thank you...

With sincere gratitude, we thank you for your expressions of sympathy during the recent loss of our mother/grandmother, Mrs. Georgia Bell Haney McFarland. Our family deeply appreciates all of you who

sent prayers, flowers, sympathy cards, donated services, and called the kindest words of support. Your thoughts and

efforts are greatly appreciated. Sincerely,

Elyria and Jordan Waddy

l a imágen f i el a quien debemos segui r e imi tar

conocer a Cristo nuestro Señor y Salvador.

debemos tener. Preocuparnos que nuestros hermanos los

hombres conozcan a Cristo.

vi viencia senci l l a y s incera será nues t ro gran

tes timonio que mo verá a muchos a in teresarse

por el mis terio de l a fe. Por el misterio de la vida

cristiana.
