10 Things Coaches Can Do to Create a Positive Youth Sports ExperienceJoe LiotineIt not always about being the best out on the field. Set personal goals for kids and help them celebrate when they accomplish something they never could of done before you helped.1. Redefine success. It helps to have played the sport, but consider studying the sport and asking other coaches for tips.2. Be knowledgeable about the sport you are coaching. There is a huge difference between 5 years olds and 8 year olds, that 3 years make a huge difference developmentally. Dont treat every age group the same.3. Be knowledgeable about the age group you are coaching.Coordination and other sports areas might not be fully developed. Make sure to make exceptions for the age group.4. Understand the unique developmental skill patterns of that age group and make adjustments for that skill levelThis isnt the pros, not every kid is going to be there developmentally at the same pace. Help them learn and grow.5. Remember that the inability to perform a certain skill may just be a lack of developmental timing, rather than a true lack of ability.Sports are larger then just a set of physicals skills. Remember to teach them about wining and losing, perseverance, and working to reach goals.6. Reinforce and refine the skills that are achieved without pushing too quickly for other skills.Set small and more easily reachable goals to help give the kids positive accomplishments.7. Give kids small tasks to learn to increase chances for accomplishmentThis isnt the pros, college, or even high school sports. These kids are not here to be yelled at and motivated. Be gentle and help them.8. Be enthusiastic and genuine.Make your practices places where kids are comfortable screwing up so they can learn new skills.9. Make kids feel comfortable so they are not afraid to try new skills.Even kids who are less talented should get opportunities to play so they can develop. Its not the pros.10. Let everyone play and substitute players frequently.CarefreeKevin MacLeodRoyalty Free2014Contemporary205151.8eng - USUAN1400037eng - iTunPGAP0eng - iTunNORM 000000CB 00000117 0000121C 00000D78 00030D87 0002B092 00005848 00004A8C 00027134 0002711Aeng - iTunSMPB 00000000 00000210 00000870 00000000008A0000 00000000 00641054 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
