A job Networking/connections Interview Experience What ever you are looking for To get to the next step Why is it important to prepare? so one sounds confident so one can answer questions showing knowledge to land a job offer Why is it good to research companies attending the job fair? It is favorable to research the companies beforehand, because you want to be have a basic understanding of the company and be somewhat knowledge about the job you are applying for. What is the most important resource when researching a company before attending a job fair? The companys website is generally considered the best place to learn about the company. What are some necessities one should bring when attending a job fair? Several copies of your resume A couple copies of tailored resumes Pens Paper Why is having your resume tailored to the companies at the job fair beneficial? This is important, because you want the resume to be error free, impressive to the hiring manager, and relative to their needs Is it acceptable to ask someone to write a reference letter tailoring it to the companies at the job fair? Why or Why not? It is as long as you give the person plenty of notice, and give the type of information you want included in the letter. If you rush the writer, they may feel less inclined to put first their full effort in writing a glowing letter of recommendation. Why is it important to look and act professional the moment one arrives? Interviewers receive their first impression the moment one walks in the door. Why is it important to talk to all of the booths at a job fair? To gain practice Networking Gain knowledge on other companies one may have not known What are the three main things to do when meeting a potential employer? Smile Firm handshake Be positive Practice first impressions For 30 seconds practice a good first impression with follow group members. Remember to have a firm handshake, smile and be confident when you talk. Should you collect business cards as a form of notes? Why or Why not? Yes, it is another way of taking notes and it also is a good way to gain not only information for you thank-you letter, but networking for later on down the road when needed. Should you take notes during an interview? Why or Why not? Yes, it allows you to jot down key information about the people that are mentioned, their positions and other key pieces for your thank you letters and for the next step. Why should you send a thank you letter after your interview? To show your appreciation, Touch on why you would fit for the position, Add in additional information that you missed during the interview, Great way to stay in contact, Keeps you at the tops of the employer's mind, Touch on strengths and/or weaknesses. What ways can you send a thank-you letter? Regular post,dropped off by hand Should you do a follow-up phone call? How long should you wait before sending a thank you letter? At least 24 hours, but no longer than 1-2 days after the interview What should you include in the thank you letter? Contact information (name, phone number, address) Interviewer information/company name and address Four main paragraphs: 1 st paragraph-appreciation, reinforcing interest in position 2 nd paragraph-background that matches what company is looking for 3 rd paragraph-(though optional) reinforce a point perceived as a possible weakness, to build on your strengths, mention something you forgot to mention at job fair or interview. 4 th paragraph-conclusion How can you impress the company you are interviewing with? Gain knowledge on company including background information, mission statements, values, and beliefs Why should you do a post- interview or self evaluation? It allows to to see what you want to improve on for the next interview, Shows you your strengths, A great way to reflect on some key points, Boost your confidence for other interviews To help you to be more prepared for either a second interview with that company or different interviews altogether What are some major questions you would ask the potential employer at a job fair geared towards teachers and professors? What are you looking for in potential job applicant? What type of technology will be available at the school site or within the classroom? Ask about the schools philosophies? How do you deal with class disruptions? What are you methods for handling difficult students while keeping the rest of the class on task? Answer should reflect patience, and make it clear of expectations of student behavior. Explain how you would start with a subtle approach, then if student did not correct behavior you would ask to speak with them after class, make a call to parents and contact guidance counselors to determine if there is a reason for this behavior. Advise in answer that you would include office as a last resort. How would you apply your strengths and weaknesses to your classroom? In response you should confidently discus your skills using a convincing approach. Talk about skills in classroom management, curriculum development, or technology integration. This shows the skills/strengths you can use in the classroom. Why did you decide to become a teacher? A good response would describe a past experience you had where you taught successfully and how rewarding you found experience. What is a 30 second commercial? A quick way to describe yourself to a potential employer What to include in your 30- second commercial? Who you are, plus a credential A specific objective How you have demonstrated your interest Why you are qualified Ask a specific question about their organization/available position(s), based on your research Why is it useful to practice your 30 second commercial before the job fair? This is beneficial, because you want to know exactly what you are going to say to grab their attention and impress them within those few moments.
