I was very impressed with the efforts children went to in researching, designing, conducting and explaining their experiments. Thank-you Ms Vrodos and Ms Turner for organising this event. Last night Nicolette and Alan from the NT Police delivered a very interesting session on Cybersafety for parents through the Think U Know program. It was good to see so many parents attending and to hear the important messages about how to help keep our children safe while using technology. Please let us know if you were unable to attend but would like to have another session organised. This week is Book Week and you can view all the short-listed books in our library. Students from 5/6W have written reviews on each of the books and students across the school are voting on which book they think should win the prizes for Book Week. It will be interesting to compare our results with those of the national judges. Dont forget, tomorrow is our Slide-a-thon. Children can wear casual clothes for a gold coin donation and bring some old clothes and a towel so they can enjoy some slipping and sliding as they complete their laps. Thank-you Mr Waldron and the SRC for all the work youve been doing to organise this unique event. Remember all money raised from the Slide-a-thon helps to offset costs for our swimming program which starts on 3rd September so please help your child collect a few sponsors. Every little bit helps. I m looking forward to a special lunch with the children who raise the most money. Next Thursday is our Fathers Day Twilight Fair from 5p.m—7p.m. This should prove to be a lovely family event where there will be some curries and pasta dishes for sale and lots of good old fashioned games that fathers can play with their children. We hope to see lots of families there. Children can purchase some Fathers Day gifts before school and after assembly next Friday . Recently I have had a few parents express concern over how some children are riding bikes to school . For example one parent was worried to see children riding across the school crossing without stopping at the kerb to look for oncoming traffic. Another spoke of how children were riding along and not watching where they were going, nearly hitting her and her family as they walked to school. If your children ride bikes or scooters to school please check the way they ride and talk to them about using the road and footpaths safely. Please remind them to wear helmets too. This afternoon at 3 p.m the Kitchen Garden team are keen to welcome parents along to the kitchen for a Volunteers meeting. Come along to the kitchen to see how you can help Dont forget to keep Friday 21st September free for our annual Quiz Night and Art Auction. Get together with your friends and make up teams of 6 for a fun night out. Finally, at next Fridays assembly 5/6 Grills will perform for us. Café Jingili will be open and the Kitchen Garden team will be selling its produce. Preschool News

The Preschool children have taken every opportunity to enjoy books this week to celebrate Book Week. We have enjoyed many favourite books and the children have shared some books from home. We have also been following up on some of the children’s interests from Science Week. The experiment with acids and alkilis and ‘bubble mania’ have been particular fun! Please remember to order your Picture plates before the end of next week. Plates can be ordered for $30 each, and we are also happy to take orders for siblings and Primary School students. Drawings can be completed at Preschool or at home on request. Last week we sent home Parent Perception surveys for each family to complete and return anonymously to Preschool (in the postbox next to the parent sign-in area). Your feedback will help us to know how we can improve our practice and environment and will inform our Quality Improvement Plan. Thank you for your input. 2019 Preschool enrolments are currently being accepted for children who turn 4 before June 30th 2019. Please email any enquiries to [email protected] A Preschool Open Day for prospective families (and all current families) will be held on Saturday 1st September between 9 and 11am. Have a great week, The Preschool Team

Kitchen Garden at Jingili Hello Jingili Community A big thank you to Michelle and Robson for taking the time to donate a preying mantis to the program. Students are learning about insects, their lifecycles and their roles in the garden. Having the mantis in the classroom is a great up close opportunity for observation and learning. Thanks to Banjo, Elsie, Pippa and Kim Rowe for the donation of kale to the program. Students practised their knife skills chopping it and tasted it in our egg drop soup. This week in the garden students are continuing to learn about insects, composting, reducing waste and garden maintenance. Next week we will be making a chick pea and seasonal vegetable curry. Assembly is Friday, week 6 and we have some delicious Nuts (seeds) & Bolts to sell for Father’s Day. Students have been measuring the ingredients and following the recipe in class to make this for our produce stall. KJ’s beeswax wraps have arrived!! KITCHEN GARDEN WORM FARM RAFFLE!!

Bunnings has generously donated a Worm Farm Kit to the Jingili Kitchen Garden Program. As the school already has established 6 worm farms around the school, we thought this would be a great opportunity for the Jingili community to begin their own Worm Farm at home and for students to share their learning.

How much? $1.00 per raffle ticket.

How many can I purchase? As many as you like!! When will it be drawn? At the last assembly in Term 3.

The worm farm comes with Instructions, and everything you need to get started. You’ll need a shady and cool spot for them to live. Care is relatively simple: they will need to be fed, damp and cool.

Worm farming is a great way to reduce your household food waste.

Using as little space as a sheltered balcony or garden space, you can turn your food

scraps into a nutritious garden resource and keep your food out of landfill.

Worm farming provides an excellent alternative or supplement to conventional

composting.

A worm farm can:

Create slow-releasing fertiliser for your plants and improve your soil structure

Reduce your organic waste and prevent the release of methane which occurs

when food breaks down in landfill

Increase the ability of your soil to catch and store water, meaning you reduce

the need to water your garden

Bolster your household pet-count by 1000 or more! Kids will love to learn and play

with your worms.

You are invited to attend

Jingili Preschool’s

on Saturday the 1st of September 9:00-11:00am

This is a great opportunity to come and visit our Preschool, meet the staff and see for yourself why Jingili Preschool has such a wonderful reputation.
