This is the front view of the paper lantern, using ruler to measure the height of it is 40 cm.

Using ruler to measure the width of the lantern form get the same number of height which is 40cm as well. When the lantern is fully expan-sioned, using ruler as weel, to find the gap bet-twen each steel circle is around 2.2cm.

Analysis

The original folded form of paper lan-tern.

Very gradual movement of expan-sion in paper lantern, it is obvious to see that without the force acting on the both sides of it, it is very hard to keep the shape of expansi9on form which means the importance of the expander.

The idea of the design:1: basic concept: skin and bones 2: singel panels are skin while the steel wire is bone3: through the two-piece constructio assures vol-ume.
