JETNETiQGlobalBusinessAviationSurvey:“SpringisintheAir”UTICA,NY‐JETNETisreleasinghighlightsofitsmostrecentJETNETiQGlobalBusinessAviationSurvey,completedontheeveoftheannualEuropeanBusinessAviationConferenceandExhibition(EBACE)industrygatheringinGeneva,Switzerland.Thequarterlysurvey,whichistargetedatbusinessaircraftownersandoperators,attractedrespondentsfrommorethan500organizationsin57countries.JETNETiQSurveyProcessJETNETiQGlobalBusinessAviationSurveysareconductedquarterlyamongfixed‐wingturbineoperatorsofbusinessaircraft.Surveyrespondentsareassuredcompleteconfidentiality,andalldataareconsolidatedtoprotectanonymity.JETNETiQSurveysarepassword‐protected,andareconductedonlineinmultiplelanguages.JETNET’s45‐personmultilingualresearchteaminUtica,NYisattheheartofthesurveyprocess,activelycallingaircraftoperatorsinordertomaintainreal‐timeupdatestoJETNET’s60,000‐plusaircraftdatabase,andencourageparticipationinJETNETiQ’squarterlysurveys.TheMay2011JETNETiQSurveywasconductedin5languages:English,French,German,PortugueseandSpanish.ThenextJETNETiQSurveywillbeconductedinJuly/August2011,andisplannedtobeinsevenlanguagesincluding,forthefirsttime,RussianandArabic.JETNETiQSurveyResultsIntotal,506respondentsfrom57countriesparticipatedinthemostrecentsurvey,whichwasconductedoverasix‐weekperiodfromearlyMarchtomid‐May2011.Almosthalfofrespondents(47%)arebasedoutsideofNorthAmerica,reflectingtheinternationalreachoftheJETNETiQSurveyprocessandthevibrancyofthesemarkets.Abouttwo‐thirdsofrespondentstotheMay2011surveyareaviationprofessionals;34%arefromseniormanagement.Fully85%ofrespondentswereinvolvedintheirorganizations’mostrecentbusinessaircraftpurchases.Respondentswereaskedaseriesofquestionsrelatedtotheir:• Intentionstobuyandsellfixed‐wingturbineaircraft• Aircraftpurchasecriteriaandinhibitorstopurchase• Flighthourutilizationpatternsandexpectations• Brandreputationsofairframeandenginemanufacturers• Desiredproductdevelopmentimprovements• Otherfactors

excessof60%overthenext12months(jetsandturboprops);thisisanincreasefrom11%inJETNETiQ’sinitialsurveyinDecember2010.Regionalvariationsareapparentinthedata;regionsoutsideofNorthAmericaandEurope,mostnotably,LatinAmerica&CaribbeanandAsiaPacific,havethehighestpurchaselikelihoods.Adjustingforpurchaseprobabilitiesandremovingexpectedcancellations,theindustryappearstobeonthevergeofasignificantreboundinnetorders.Thesenetorderrateswilllikelyexceedcurrentproductionrates.InplainEnglish:weshouldexpecttheindustryasawholetoachieveabook‐to‐billratiogreaterthan1.0onaunitsbasisoverthenext12months.
• Pre‐ownedfixed‐wingturbineaircraft:17%ofoperatorssurveyedindicateapurchase
probabilityinexcessof60%overthenext12months(jetsandturboprops);thisisupfrom15%inJETNETiQ’sinitialsurveyinDecember2010.
• Inhibitorstopurchase:Ofthe“Top5”top‐of‐mindinhibitorstopurchase,60%ofrespondents
indicatethattheyhavenoneedatthistimefornew,additional,orreplacementaircraft.Otherinhibitorsincludeaninabilitytore‐markettheirexistingaircraft(14.5%),highpurchasepricesfornewaircraft(10.7%),constrainedaccesstocapitaltomakeapurchase(7.6%),andhighcostsofoperation(6.9%).
• Flighthourutilization:Ownersandoperatorsworldwideexpectaverageflighthourutilization
toincreaseyear‐over‐yearin2011,andagainin2012.Basedonsurveyresponses,themostoptimisticownersandoperatorsforhigherflighthourutilizationinthecomingyeararefromLatinAmerica&Caribbean,andAsiaPacific.RespondentsinNorthAmericaandEurope,whileexpectingtoflymorehours,donotexpecthourstoincreaseasfastasdothoseoutsidetheseregions.
Whenaskedaboutdesirableproductimprovements,respondentsaremostinterestedinimprovedoperatingefficiencyandlowercostsofaircraftoperation.Thisisinstarkcontrastwiththetraditionalviewofthebusinessaircraftmarketasbeingprimarilyfocusedonperformance.PaulCardarelli,JETNETDirectorofSalesandMarketing,said,“TheinternationalorientationofourJETNETiQsurveysisarealdifferentiator.BusinessaircraftownersandoperatorsaroundtheworldappreciateandrespectthefactthatJETNETisindependent,andspeakstheirlanguages.Ourplanistobeabletospeak“JETNETiQ”in7languagesinourfirstyear!”
