As a rabbi, Jesus interprets and teaches Jewish Law.

Jesus even uses some parables to teach these laws.

Jesus is seen as a Rabbi when he is debating with the Pharisees and Sadducees. Often they misinterpret Jewish Law.

Mustard Seed Yeast Weeds Among the Wheat

Jesus uses these parables to teach about the Kingdom of Heaven. The seed and the yeast show how the Kingdom grows with the right kind of care, and the weeds represent the people that make the Kingdom worse.

In ancient Judaism, a Rabbi was a teacher of the Torah. Though Jesus did not always teach from the Temple, he was a teacher of the Torah. A common theme in Matthew is the misunderstanding of Jewish Law. Jesus conquers all of the laws with authority. He takes on any question and always knows what he’s talking about.
