The word parable comes from the Latin wordparabola which means comparison.
parables invite us to make comparisons
between a story drawn from familiar everyday
life and some other less evident, perhaps
hidden reality.
parables were told to reveal and not to hide the
truth. It was told to personally criticize thepersons to whom it was told in order to raise
the persons consciousness to a new level of
understanding.

The parables that we hear now is addressed tous individually. It is not complete because the
ending is up to us.

separated from its audience.

Pharisee came from the Hebrew word parush
which means the separated which best
describe the attitude of the Pharisees who
insisted on observing the Torah very intently. The Christian quality shown in this parable is
humility referring to the attitude of the tax
collector who acknowledges his sinfulness. This parable is closely related to the 2nd
beatitude of Blessed are they who mourn
which refers to those who weep for their sins.

The high priest titular head of the Jewish
people & served as head of the Sanhedrin, the
Jewish high court.

Christian qualities shown in the parable: consistency loving God and neighbor;
charitable going beyond ones biases; this is
shown by the fact that the Jews normally looked
down upon the Samaritans , referring to the Jews
who intermarried with people from Samaria. The
Jews refuse to interact with them since they
consider them as pagans; loving using ones hands and means as shown
by the Samaritan;
proactive concerned for the future when the
Samaritan promise to pay for any future expenses.

This parable is undoubtedly the most popular ofJesus portraying the Kingdom of God throughthe use of the SEED.
Christian qualities shown are:
if we work for God, we must work with GREAT
PATIENCE sowing seed is a back breaking job.
we must work with a generous spirit, with
GREAT PERSEVERANCE even if only of theseed yielded a return, yet work continues for
the sower.

Jesus was not really against wealth and materialresources. It is a poverty that is a choice of beingattached to God amidst all the material needsthat is hailed as a virtue. This parable is closely
related to the 1st beatitude of being poor inspirit.

This parable of Jesus about the hiring of workmencan be very controversial. However, as Jesushimself points out through the owners statement the issue is not one of justice or injustice. The
issue is on the super-generous ways of the ownerwho also gave a full days wage to those who werehired and worked only for one hour.

to be generous like the owner of the vineyard;
to also give opportunities to persons around usand
to have faith in the goodness of others.
