JESUS SHED TEARS BEFORE
HIS CRUCIFIXION
John 12:13; Luke 19:41-44
John 12:13 (GWT)
So they took palm branches and went to meet him. They were shouting,
“Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!”
Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter. This religious holiday commemorates the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his crucifixion.
John is the only Gospel to specifically mention palm branches. The palm branch was a symbol of triumph and victory.
Luke 19:41-44 (NLT)
41 But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep.
42 “How I wish today that you of all people would
understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your
eyes.
43 Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you
and close in on you from every side.
44 They will crush you into the ground, and your children with
you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place,
because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation.”
JESUS SHED TEARS BEFORE HIS CRUCIFIXION
JESUS SAW BEYOND THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE OF THINGS.– In verse 41, it says…"He
saw the city"
And what He sees makes Him weep…
He sees the spiritual condition of the city and his people…
Sometimes He is grieved…because of our spiritual condition
also…That we reject Him, or don’t
give Him our all? That we would rather live for
self, than live for Him.
That we would rather be selfish, instead of selfless.
That we would rather live for the world, than live for His Kingdom.
Sometimes He is grieved…because of our spiritual condition
also…
HE CARES ABOUT OUR PAIN – (v. 41) “He beheld the city...
and wept over it"
JESUS SHED TEARS BEFORE HIS CRUCIFIXION
Jesus primary concern, was over their sin and rejection?
Did you know, that sin brings pain?
We cannot sin and win.
Repentance is a TURNING AWAY FROM SIN, and a
turning to God.
HE KNOWS YOUR FULL POTENTIAL – (v. 42) "If you, even you,
had only known ... "
JESUS SHED TEARS BEFORE HIS CRUCIFIXION
Jesus knows your full potential.
He doesn’t look at what you are, so much as He looks at what you can become, with His help!
JESUS DESIRES TO GIVE US PEACE IN OUR LIVES – (v. 42) “this day what
would bring you peace”
JESUS SHED TEARS BEFORE HIS CRUCIFIXION
Peace! What a great word it is! Worlds and governments chase
after it… Peace! Jerusalem means city of
peace.
John 14:27 (NLT)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
