INTRODUCTION:
Jesus is alive! How do we know that? The Bible tells us. (Show children the Bible and say: The Bible is God’s
special book.) The Bible tells us about God.
We’re going to hear a Bible story today about the very first Easter, when people found out that Jesus is alive.
When Jesus died His friends were sad. What do you do when you are sad? (Pause for responses) You might cry when you’re sad. (Pretend you are crying and wiping away tears from your face.)
Jesus’ friends were crying because they were thinking about the cross where Jesus had to hang.
Some women brought spices to care for Jesus’ body after He died. The spices made the body smell very nice. The women put spices on Jesus’ body because they loved Jesus.
After Jesus died He was put in a tomb, which is like a dark cave. Jesus’ friends came to the tomb, and guess who they saw! An angel! A bright angel standing by the tomb. The angel said, “Don’t be sad. Jesus isn’t dead, Jesus is alive! (Have children clap and say “Jesus is alive”.)
Jesus’ friends saw that the rock was rolled away. Jesus is alive! Jesus’ friends were happy and they ran to tell their friends that Jesus is alive. Let’s see who they told.
Jesus’ friends heard that Jesus is alive. They wanted to see Jesus for themselves and touch Him when suddenly, Jesus appeared! The people were scared. Hide your faces as if you’re scared. But Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid. It’s me, Jesus, I’m alive!” (Let the children say with you, “Jesus is alive”)
Later, Jesus was with His friends again. They took a walk together then Jesus said a prayer for His friends. He was going to live with God in heaven. The people waved goodbye. Let’s wave goodbye like Jesus’ friends. (Have the children wave)
Then God lifted Jesus up, up, up to heaven. Wave children! Goodbye! Jesus went up into the clouds of heaven.
Jesus’ friends thanked God that Jesus is alive!
