I pride myself on being loyal and reliable with an ability to work well in a team. Studying interior design at the University of Bolton I feel has given me relevant skills and knowledge to progress and thrive within this profession. I am most interested in multidisciplinary practices as I feel I could learn even more of the industry from this opportunity. I am a friendly, positive person that is eager to learn and progress within the interiors industry. To work in a multidisciplinary practice I feel would give me further understanding of the industry, I am very interested in the different sectors as well as professions that work together to make this type of practice a success and would love to be part of this. The sectors within this practice I am most interested in are retail and hospitality these are sectors I have enjoyed designing for the most within my time in education. In 2010 I completed a short period of work experience at a local primary school, here I learnt to work and communicate with people of different ages. In 2012 I volunteered as a Games-maker for the London 2012 Olympics this involved working with a huge team to keep the games and the experience running smoothly. From this I grew in independence, as well as further development of communication and organisation skills. Inspiration should be from my research architect- Santiago Calatrava and the company we are designing for Ascolights. The design should be suitable for the Ascolights virtual showroom, on the company’s website. The visuals should focus on lighting, especially those used by the company. For this project I created a spa and gym in the basement , this allowed for extra control over lighting which was the key aspect of this project. Brief To design an innovative space of the chairman’s suite in the Reebok stadium. The space will be used for the chairman, owner, director and associates of both the team- Bolton Wanderers and its guests. The space must be flexible to fit to its different uses and different ages and user types. This project held a few challenges for the design, one of the main challenges was the folding partition wall splitting the room, this wall was the main requirement of what had to stay within the design. There was very little that could be done here so I used a chalkboard material to make the wall both decorative and conventional. S h a d e r l i g h t I manage my time well with a good balance of physical and mental activities. While at University I successfully combined my studies with work, personal activities and other commitments. In my spare time I enjoy painting and drawing, in doing this I am able to show my creative side but also find it as a calming and emotional outlet. I have entered my work in to local competitions and also made money from my art work. On a more physical side I regularly go to the gym to keep in a healthy physical shape. I also like to keep a good balance in life by socializing with friends both at home and at other universities across the country. I gained a driving license in 2012 from which has given me increased independence and freedom. During my time in education I have developed a range of software skills. After being introduced and tutorialed on software such as Illustrator, Indesign, AutoCAD and Sketchup I continued to develop these skills further, teaching myself areas of sofware. With these software skills i can successfully create plans, sections, and 3D visuals and lay them out to be presented on applications such as Illustrator, Indesign and powerpoint. i have good writing and communication capabilities, which i have develpoed throughout my time in education. /i am always working to develop my skills further and am quick and eager to learn. Portfolio of work During my time at University, the course has presented me with many different challenges and opportunities. I have enjoyed the projects completed in the three years I have done at university and feel I now understand the many different skills needed for the industry. Over the years I have increasingly immersed myself in interior design, from decorating to research of different styles. I am currently designing a Vintage clothes store for a local business, Eccythump independent art. This project entails a change of use from a private living space to a commercial space. The skills I have gained in my degree are continually helping me in this project. Brief To redesign the basement level of The Velvet hotel, Manchester. The design will turn the current space into a champagne bar. The design will make use of sustainable materials and keep to the relevant rules and regulations of the building. The building is currently a boutique hotel, located on Canal Street and the basement space is currently being used as a restaurant space. The location is relatively central in Manchester and within walking distance from the major transport connections such as Manchester Piccadilly. The building usually hosts a younger, up market clientele. For this project I created a champagne bar called moment, the design was both luxurious and fresh. This project involved space planning, branding and atmosphere. The main bar area was inspired by crystal cut glass. Eccythump Independent Art is an existing business, located in Bolton. It is a small business specialising in a broad range of art and design services. The redesign of the building that houses this business is both an expansion of the current building size and a total redesign of the interior. These changes should solve current problems such as space and flow. The design incorporates a variety of the company’s services. It is a multifunctional space which includes a tattoo studio, an art studio, a vehicle customisation workshop, a gallery and a vintage clothes shop. This is a unique experience and space as it combines art and design and the customer can enjoy a variety of activities within one building. Each section of the shop will reflect the company’s design and artistic work, but also create a sense of community and flow. The ultimate objective of the project is to create a space where designer and client can work and be inspired together to create, view and enjoy individual bespoke items. Redesigning Eccythump 2014
