The ArrangerJeremy Woolstenhulme received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Brigham Young University in 2000 and a Masters of Arts degree in cello perfor-mance from University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2005.

Mr. Woolstenhulme currently serves as the orchestra director at Hyde Park Middle School in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, NV, where he teaches and conducts seven orchestras daily. His award-winning orchestras have performed at the Midwest Clinic, and the ASTA National Conference. In 2015, his orchestra earned first place honors at the ASTA National Orchestra Festival in the middle school division. Mr. Woolstenhulme has also traveled with his orchestras to major cities around the United States and Europe.

As a professional cellist, Mr. Woolstenhulme is a member of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Seasons String Quartet. He also performs as a freelance musician at many entertainment venues in Las Vegas. He is the founder, coordi-nator, and instructor of the Las Vegas String Workshop, an innovative summer workshop including 2 tracks, one for students and one for teachers.

With steadily growing number of original and arranged works to his credit, Mr. Woolstenhulme is a commissioned and published composer, many of which have been performed around the world. His works have consistently been included as J.W. Pepper Editors’ Choice Selections and can be found on festival repertoire lists. He is co-author, with Terry Shade and Wendy Barden, of the highly acclaimed string method, String Basics. His speciality is to write for middle and high school orchestras where he composes to teach, challenge, and inspire. He has served as clinician and guest conductor throughout the United States, Canada, Australia (including the prestigious Maryborough Conference), and the People’s Republic of China.

Jeremy Woolstenhulme and his wife Taryn live in North Las Vegas with their four children Cadence Belle, Coda Blake, Canon Thomas, and Caprice Aria. They are dedicated to church activities, enjoy boating, along with many other outdoor sports.

The CompositionMystical Portal is the third work in the popular “Mystical” series. The journey began with Mystical Quest, where the hero in the story climbed rugged mountains and trudged through densely wooded valleys. Next, in Mystical Towers, our hero took us into ancient ruins of two mystical towers in search of a magical relic. And now, our hero, who we have traveled with since the beginning, takes us through a doorway and into another world…a labyrinth. To pass through the portal unharmed, our hero must first navigate his way through the twisting corri-dors of the labyrinth that protects the portal. The path seems unending and our hero almost loses hope, yet makes one final attempt and succeeds. He hesitates at the threshold, unsure of the dangers that might lurk on the other side. He confidently steps through, and what does he see?

Learning BankLabyrinth = a place filled with complicated passages which features paths and sometimes tunnels. A maze. Most labyrinths have one entrance and one separate, hard to find exit. Labyrinths go back as far as the Middle Ages. One of the most famous labyrinths was built around the year 1200 at the Chartres Cathedral near Paris, France, however another famous labyrinth is found in Greek mythology. The labyrinth was designed by Daedalus (famous as an architect and inventor) for King Minos of Knossos.

Hedge garden mazes became popular during the Renaissance and weren’t designed to confuse people, rather to provide a one-directional pathway for casual walkers perhaps wanting a peaceful environment for meditation. Life-size hedge mazes in gardens remain popular today in parts of the US and Europe. The beautiful hedge maze shown from two perspectives below is one such example. At Halloween time, it’s not unusual to find fun corn-field mazes made of hay bales as part of pumpkin patches or fall festivals. Maze puzzle books are also popular with people young and old, as they provide hours of fun.
