Jennifer Collier: Workshop Menu Private Parties(You can choose from any of the workshops that Jennifer Collier offers, on a day of your choosing at £350 for the group for the day. This is available for a 6-12 participants (NB. 10 for the Paper Lampshades or Printed Canvases courses) and includes all materials and use of equipment; all you need to bring is a packed lunch).

Natures Sketchbook - Full day. Jennifer will show you a low fi method for screen printing onto paper using flat natural and found objects. The workshop with explore transferring both positive and negative images and experiment with printing onto different types of papers. The samples will be collated into a series of hand bound sketchbooks using traditional book binding techniques. Please bring along your own FLAT natural and found materials such as lace doilies, leaves, petals and grasses (all natural materials must be fresh).

Paper Shoes, with accompanying shoeboxes - 1/2 dayCreating decorative paper shoes from found and recycled papers. You will have a choice of four different types of shoes to make. You will be able to glue the recycled papers onto a template I have devised, and when these are cut out will be constructed into shoe shapes. They will go onto decorating a shoebox to go with their pair of paper shoes.

Headwear - 1/2 dayCreating, functional, semi and non-functional pieces of headwear, such as hats, fascinators, hair combs, hair clips and hat pins. These will be created by stitching and manipulating scrap papers, recycling old buttons, net and ribbons and incorporating items such as doilies and lace.

Paper Garment Making Workshop - Full dayCreating paper garments, such as gloves, ties, dicky bows and small dresses from recycled and found papers. You will learn FIVE experimental techniques to create more complex garments from (images 1 and 2), and then by drawing round templates onto found papers, and cutting the shapes out, you will be able to create decorative, non-wearable paper garments and accessories. These will be decorated and embellished with buttons, ribbons, feathers, doilies etc to make them look almost wearable.

Paper Lampshades - Full dayCreate your own beautiful recycled paper lampshade using lovely vintage papers and by up-cycling existing frames. You will be shown how to create a pattern for your frame, to how to stitch the vintage papers together to form the shade. Please bring a lampshade to up-cycle (Victorian, rather than barrel) or Jennifer will have them available to buy on the day.

Manipulated Fabrics with Pattern & Print - Full day. This workshop will show fabric manipulation techniques using both hand and machine stitch, such as pleating, patch-working and molar work. The fabric pieces will then be over printed using flat natural and found objects as a resist for screen printing. Please bring along your own scrap fabrics and FLAT natural and found materials such as lace doilies, leaves, petals and grasses (all natural materials must be fresh).

Experimental Bookbinding - Full day. You will be shown Jennifer’s trademark experimental techniques, such as waxing, stitching and trapping recycled papers to create sketchbook pages. These will then be made into a traditionally bound A5 soft backed sketchbook.

Grandmother ‘s Apron - Full day. Create a beautiful handmade apron and capture all the nostalgia of your grandmother sewing box. We will scan old photographs, to be heat transfer printed onto the apron. The apron will be embellished with hand stitch such as bullion roses, cross stitches, running and satin stitch and vintage haberdashery. Please bring along an old pocketed shirt to upcycle, as well as small photographs to be scanned and printed.

Papier-mâché Tea Sets - 1/2 day or full day (cake day)Creating decorative tea sets from recycled plastic food packaging, such as yoghurt pots, cups and old plastic cutlery. These are papier-mâchéd with recycled papers and decorated found materials. For a full day session we can also go onto making cakes combining found materials with Jennifer’s experimental techniques (last image).

Experimental Textile Techniques Workshop - Full or 1/2 day.This is experimental sample making workshops, where you are shown lots of different techniques,which include bonding, trapping, layering, waxing and latexing unusual materials, such asplastic bags, leaves, petals, teabags, feathers and buttons. The samples will then be collatedin a sketchbook, which will be handmade in the session and will include beautiful laminatedcovers.

Printed Canvases - Full or 1/2 day.Creating printed canvases by heat transfer printing. To do this we create a collage, ideallyusing personal objects, as well as found papers, this is then scanned and then printed ontoheat transfer paper. When this is ironed onto fabric the image is transferred, and the fabricis stretched and stapled over a frame. This will then be stitched into and personal and foundobjects sewn onto the surface.

Paper Bird Boxes - Full day.Creating a beautiful bespoke bird box, complete with its own bird on its perch, created from recycled papers, stitch and card, inspired by Jennifer’s own work.

Fabric Books - Full day.Creating a stunning fabric book of your own theme. We will scan and transfer print vintage photographs and paper ephemera onto fabric, and each page will be embellished with a combination of hand and machine stitch. The finished book will comprise of six pages, and a cover incorporating a fastening. Please bring along your own fabric scraps, lace, ribbon, small treasures and small photographs (to be scanned and printed).
