Children, Media and Democracy

Principles to follow when using media aimed at children and young people:- Equality (boys and girls having the same opportunities)

Page 2: Jemma's World Summit Notes

- Diversity (gender/race/disability/ethnicity/religion)- Similarity (children share same challenges/drams/morality/friends/difficulties)- Unity (friendship – not always about sex between the two genders)- Family- Authenticity - Voice (giving young people a voice of their own)

TMCThink about the principles in terms of our website.

Invisible marketing towards Children

Marketing/legislation acts in Sweden.ICC Code of Advertising and Marketing Communication Practice (worldwide)Stealth marketing – ‘customers’ paying compliments to other customers/carrying sale bags around as if they’re shoppers.

Sesame Workshops: Building Healthy Habits for Life

- Using the power of media for education.- Special attention to those with the least access to education

- Alternative distribution methods such as phone apps.- Meeting local educational needs and United Nations Millennium goals.

Examples of work:- Vaccination pamphlets- Product messenging

- Improve knowledge, attitudes and skills to deal with situations such as HIV.- Child obesity – USA campaign.- Cookie Monster – sometimes food rather than an all time food. Obama’s wife to plant a

garden/veg patch in new series.- Need to intervene by 4-5 years-old.- Outreach kits.
