In 2002, a movie came out called ‘Windtalkers’which told the story of the Native American Code Talkers,
who used their own language to help defeat the Japanese in WWII.
At the time, only 5 of the original Navajos who served in the US Marines in WWII were still alive.
They were invited to Ganondagan in Victor to give a demonstration.
One was not able to attend, and one was very sick. The three original code talkers did attend, however,
and I did this poster to commemorate the event.
Peter Jemison got their autographs for me, and needless to say, I treasure them.

Rebranding for Canandaigua National Bank and Trust.
Eighteen years ago was the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Canandaigua Treaty.
I was commissioned to design a commemorative poster for the event.
The poster had the Tree of Peace and theWords ‘Peace and Friendship Forever’
written in English and Mohawk.
The purple wampum belt you see is theoriginal Hiawatha belt,
which Peter Jemison brought to the photo shoot. The oval
medallion is a solid silver medal that was given to Red Jacket
by George Washington.
Enough money was raised from the sale of the posters and an accompanying souvenir
booklet to pay for the entire day's events.
