PurimThursday, March 8Purim derives its name from the word“Pur,” meaning lot. It recalls the lots thatHaman, Prime Minister of Persia, cast todetermine the most favorable monthand day for the execution of the Jews ofPersia. This diabolical scheme was foiledby the intervention of the Persianqueen, Esther, and her uncle, Mordecai,who were both Jewish. Purim is afestival of joy, and young and old dressup in costumes to celebrate.

The JCC holds a carnival every year, theSandy and Edgar Snyder Family PurimCarnival. This year’s event will be held onSunday, March 4. See p. 13 for details.

CLUBHOUSEAFTER-SCHOOLPROGRAMGrades K-6Call Jayme Vertullo, ext. 852.The JCC Clubhouse combines top-quality facilities with trained, caring,creative staff. We offer a wide variety ofstimulating activities in our tournament-size gyms, heated indoor swimmingpools and in our various clubs. Childrenare grouped into age-appropriatehomerooms.

Each day children are met at their buses,escorted to their homerooms, given ahealthy snack including fruits and veg-etables, assisted with homework, andthen provided with a variety of activitychoices. Monthly snack calendars, clubschedules and newsletters are available,so that both you and your child are well-informed.

Clubhouse focuses on nurturing theemotional, physical and social well-being of each child. We provide variousactivities such as organized gym games,age-appropriate art projects, cooking,

free swim, pen pals, recycling and boardgames galore. We visit the library, cele-brate Shabbat every week and havemonthly birthday celebrations to recog-nize each child’s special day.

TransportationContact your child’s school and fill out aPM Drop-off Form requesting the JCC asyour afternoon drop-off location.
