  • JB4 Install Guide or F20 BMW M135i with Electronic Waste Gate (EWG) The following guide applies to F20 BMW M135is with EWGs and JB4s bought with the integrated Fuel Flex (FF) harness.

    Harness

Refer to the above picture for a simplified version of the harness.

  • Tools 1. 10mm spanner

    2. T50 torx

    3. Zip ties

    4. Phillips head screw driver

    5. Flat head screw driver

Method 1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery located in the boot under the floor

    2. Prior to removal, I recommend you take a photo of your engine bay, noting how things were installed if you

forget. Note where the weather seals go and which one is on top.

    3. Remove the engine cover this can be removed by pulling up on each corner. It should just pop off.

  • 4. Remove the 3 10mm locking nuts holding in the plastic cover. There is also a latch that you just need to squeeze

    (see picture).

  • 5. Remove the foam insulation located under the engine cover. Be really careful with this step as it is easy to tear.

Part number 28 as shown in picture below.

  • 6. Remove the harness from the JB4 and remove the covering of the DSUB to reveal the holes. It should look like

    this:

    7. The purple wire (going to the male pin on the wastegate harness) connects to position #9 on the DB25 connector.

  • 8. The blue wire (going to the female pin on the wastegate harness) connects to position #16 on the DB25 connector. Note if equipped with a BMS methanol kit then the FSB blue wire going to the FSB must be relocated to the DB9 (usb cable) position #9.

    9. Once that is done, reconnect the DB25 connector to the JB4.

    10. For RHD drives, place the JB4 somewhere tidy and route the harness over the engine. There is a gap in the

weather seal where you can get the harness through (see picture.)

  • 11. The OEM plugs are held in with a clip and it is easiest to remove with a screw driver. Lever it up at the back and

    it should pop right off.

    12. Connect the EWG plugs to the relevant location.

  • 13. Connect the FF plugs its located at the end of the fuel rail (long shiny silver thing).

  • 14. Connect the MAP plugs - its located near the FF harness.

  • 15. Connect the TMAP plugs. In my car, it was a plastic chard pipe and in other guides it is metal so this may be

    confusing.

  • 16. Remove the casing to reveal the CAN bus wires (see picture). Use the supplied quick connectors to hook these

up. Here is a picture from another guide:

  • 17. Make everything neat and re-install the removed parts. Be sure to note re-install the weather sealing correctly

    to avoid any damage.

    18. Connect the red wire to the red power point in your car youll need the T50 tool here.

    19. Connect the black wire to the ground point in your car youll need the T50 tool here. See pictures for a

    reference.

    20. Reconnect the battery.

    21. Connect the USB cable and update your firmware.

    22. Open up the JB4 Interface

    a. Set PID Gain = 12

    b. Set Fuel Open Loop = 50

    23. At the time of writing this, you may get a Drivetrain Error. To avoid this turn your car on without your foot on

the break and then turn your car on.
