Dear Parents
Monitor/Mentor Induction Assembly
Congratulations to all the Grade Sevens who were inducted as Monitors and Mentors at yesterday's special
assembly. Monitors and Mentors are student leaders of Japari. Their tasks ahead are difficult and challenging. Each
leadership role that our Monitors and Mentors are allocated is an opportunity to serve and grow. These duties can
be for example, controlling line up at assembly, escorting guests at official school functions, taking uniform and hair
inspections, meeting younger children on a regular basis, providing a sympathetic ear to their concerns and solving
their problems to the best of their ability, first aid, library and sound teams.
The position of Monitor and Mentor is challenging and one of responsibility and commitment, but we are confident
that they will rise to the challenge and execute their duties diligently.
Thank you to the many parents, family and friends who shared this special occasion with us. Parents will notice,
when they attend the Valedictory Service at the end of the year, how their children have developed and matured
during this year of massive personal growth.
Grade Six
This is also an important year for our Grade Sixes. Grade Sixes are in training to take up the Monitor and Mentor
duties in 2019, when they will be in Grade Seven. When our current Grade Sevens write their final examinations at
the end of the year, the Grade Sixes, take over their duties. Grade Sixes need to demonstrate, through their
behaviour and work ethic this year, that they are ready to take over this leadership role next year.
Science Fair
Our Junior School was a hive of excitement and work today as a multitude of amazing scientific experiments were
demonstrated and explained. Excitement has been building for weeks now as this day has come nearer and nearer!!!
A great variety of Einsteins and Scientists were also seen!!!
It was fantastic to see all the parents who came, assisted and supported their children. This is a lovely occasion
where parents can spend quality time with their children and have lots of fun at the same time!!
A huge thank you to Mrs Engel and her super Junior Team, whose hard work and commitment ensured the success
of this wonderful event.
Plaque of Honour
In 2016, Japari celebrated her Jubilee Year. In commemoration of this a wall of Plaques was erected and a special
fountain constructed. Parents are reminded that this Wall of Plaques is ongoing and that Plaques can be bought at
any time. This is a perfect way to remain part of and recognise Japari School even when you have left us.
Plaques can be purchased for R300.00.

WE WILL SWIM DURING CLASS PE UNTIL THE END OF MARCH
FROM THE SPORTS DESK
On Friday we swam the last gala of the season at Dainfern against four other strong schools – a
wonderful gala and a big thank you to all the parents who come to watch all the galas and to all the
swimmers who worked so hard all season. The results are as follows:
Gino Capkovic 3rd Freestyle, 1st Breaststroke
Mikele Ferreira 3rd Senior Medley, Backstroke and Butterfly, 2nd Breaststroke
Jordon Milner 3rd Breaststroke
Swimmers of the week go to my wonderful junior, Gino Capkovic who works so hard every week
as well as Amilee Holborow-Browne who has swum out of her age group at every gala with no
complaints and to my Captain – Jordon Milner and Vice-Captain Unathi Ngcobo.
This week Japari played against Orchards Primary and won both the matches. Wow!!! The
Commonwealth played at home with some wonderful batting and fielding. We did give away a lot of
wides and no balls this week though. Well done to Luvuyo Ngidi on his wicket and Zach Carpel for
his wicket. Some wonderful fielding by all the boys, especially Jaden for this two catches and Yadah
for his wonderful work behind the wickets. Zach gets bowler of the week for his awesome three
overs only giving away three runs in total – fantastic. Congratulations to Jaden Ramadhin for his 32
not out – three beautiful 6s and three 4s – he is batter of the week – awesome batting. We made
the necessary runs in just four overs.
A big thank you to Luvuyo for coming to help out the Commonwealth side at the last minute – you played like a star.
The Ter Horst side also won. A long afternoon for the boys and coaches because of all the wides
from both sides. Congratulations to Regan van der Walt for his 20 runs which consisted of two 4s
and a 6. He is batting so very well at the moment and gets batter of the week. Keep it up Regan in
the last term, when we go back to cricket matches. Well done to Regan – 1 wicket, Vuyo Sithole -
2 wickets and Shridhar Roopanand - 1 wicket - he gets bowler of the week. Mention must be made
of Jayden Page for his excellent bowling figures – three runs given away only in his two overs. A big
thank you to the parents who gave up their Wednesday afternoons to come and support and
encourage our budding cricketers – the boys, coaches and I so appreciate it. To my coaches,
Patrick, Gareth and Calvin – thanks for all the hard work you have put into this cricket season – I so
appreciate it, as do all the Japari boys.
The results for the last KFC mini cricket game will be in next week’s newsletter.
