First of all I would like to be thankful to Sir Ahmed for his

dedication, work, and support relating our marketing

assignment. He is the one who taught us about the

strategies plan and the outline, of how to actually make

the project; I would also like to thank my parents for

putting in full support and helping me provide things that

    were required for this project.

    Introduction about Japan-

    Japan: Introduction

Japan is an island nation in East Asia. Located in the Pacific

Ocean, it borders China, North Korea, South Korea, Russia,

Taiwan, the Sea of Japan, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the East

China Sea. It is an archipelago of 6,852 islands, most of which

are mountainous and many are volcanic. The government

system is a parliamentary government with a constitutionalmonarchy. The chief of state is the Emperor and the head of

government is the Prime Minister. Japan has a market economy

in which the prices of goods and services are determined in a

free price system. Japan is a member of the Asian Pacific

    Economic Cooperation (APEC).

    PROFILE OF THE COUNTRY-

JAPANS culture and ethnicity is an overall hype

everywhere they still have their own traditions whichmakes them different from other countries especially

Japanese manners. It is important to be respectful in

Japan. You should not be too noisy; you should wear

good socks as you will need to remove your shoes upon

going inside a residence or visiting some castles or

shrines. It is good to at least know some very basic

Japanese like hello, thank you, excuse me and such.

I assure you that it is worth the trip. You will eat many

delicious foods, see amazing things, and take home many

wonderful memories .there climate, countries built in

environment in which Japan is one of the world's leaders

in the development of new environment-friendlytechnologies, and is ranked 20th best in the world in the

2010Environmental Performance Index. Japan is also

known for its biodiversity raging from forests to islands

    (Ryky and Bonan Island)

Japan has over 90,000 species of wildlife, including

the brown bear, the Japanese macaque, theJapanese

raccoon dog, and the Japanese giant salamander .the

wild life takes your breath away and Japan is also making

projects and wildlife parks to help preserve this all.

    Nowadays view-

Last year, the number of tourists worldwide reached an

astonishing 1.035 billion arrivals, according to an annual

survey by the United Nations World Tourism

    Organization (UNWTO). Despite worldwide economic

uncertainty, more people than ever before traveled toother countries. Tourism is clearly an economic and

cultural force that will continue increasing every year.

The survey found that tourism around the world

increased by 4 percent overall from 2011 to 2012.Europe is still the most visited area, with 535 million

visitors, but visitor arrivals continued to increase in every

region of the world except the Middle East.

Tourism in the Asia-Pacific region was up 7 percent. The

regions best performer was Southeast Asia with arrivals

up 8.7 percent from 2011. Japan saw revenue from

international tourism increase by 37 percent in 2012, a

higher number than the vast majority of countries.

Part of that upsurge reflects a recovery from the rapid

and massive drop in tourism following the earthquake,

tsunami and radiation fears in 2011, but it also supports

the understanding that Japan is still an untapped tourist

destination. Developing a larger tourist market cancontribute to a healthy, diversified economy and serve as

    one source of economic vitality.

Japan has not yet developed its tourist market fully, but

given the ongoing economic depression, it should be

considered more seriously as an important industry.

Perhaps because the rest of Asia, particularly Southeast

Asia, leaped ahead too quickly into tourism without

sufficient controls and infrastructure, some Japanese

may fear the result of a huge influx of tourists here.

However, a more developed tourist industry would leave

Japanese culture intact and unharmed since the

  • 8/13/2019 Japan Acknowldgenent

Japanese economy is not as vulnerable to fluctuations as

developing economies might be. It is unlikely that huge

numbers of tourists will have negative effects on the

already mature and established culture, or produce a

tourism-addicted economy, in the way it might have

once done in more fragile cultures and developing

    economies.

Japanese outbound tourism also improved in 2012. The

slight improvement in the Japanese economy

contributed significantly to the rise in Japanese visitors

throughout Asia. Tourism is never a one-way industry,

but benefits many countries at the same time.

Tourism can do harm, but it can also help foster

understanding. Asian cooperation and coordination in

tourism can help improve political and economic

relations. Japan would do well to support its touristindustry. Nurturing it is one positive way of interacting

with its Asian neighbors and fostering cross-cultural

    awareness

Tourists have stayed away in droves in the two years

since a deadly triple disaster on Japan's northeast coast,

but Japan is mounting a remarkable comeback, with

foreign visitor numbers reaching a record high last

    month.

From April 2012 to April 2013, the number of foreign

tourists rose about 18 percent. The record 923,000

visitors surpass the previous monthly record of 879,000

set in July 2010, according to the Japan National Tourism

    Organization (JNTO).

The yen's dramatic drop against the US dollar and other

major currencies, the availability of cheap international

flights, and fading memories of the March 2011 disaster

have combined to put Japan back on the tourist map.

    AMBITIOUS TOURISM PLANS?

The disaster forced Japan to abandon plans to attract 25

million visitors a year by 2020. But Prime Minister Shinzo

Abe recently outlined a target of 20 million tourists ayear by 2017, more than double current levels, partly

through relaxing visa regulations for people from certain

    countries.

Tourism authorities are hoping to launch a new round of

campaigns in partnership with Japanese embassies and

other public and private bodies focusing on "cool Japan,"

including its food and drink, manga comics, and other

staples of the country's popular culture, according to

Mamoru Kobori, executive director of marketing and

promotion at the JNTO in Tokyo.

"The April figure for total inbound visitors to Japan is a

new record, and we're encouraged by that," says Mr.

Kobori. "But we are still short of our annual target by

    about two percentage points."

Tourists from the US and Europe have Mr. Abe partly to

thank for making Japan less of a drain on their finances,

although traveler tales of Tokyo's prohibitively expensive

restaurants and hotels ignore the many cheaper options

    available to visitors.

Abes policies have successfully weakened Japan's

currency in an effort to bring relief to the country's

exporters. The dollar, which was valued at around 80 yen

in November, has risen to the 102-yen level in recent

    days.

The Country of Japan is endowed with an spectrum of

beautiful places to see and enjoy. Japan Tourism,

therefore incorporates the visit to historic ruins, cultural

resources, ultra modern cities as well as lush dense

forests and woods, breath taking mountain ranges and

    sun drenched sea shorelines.

more opinions regarding this is that I personally felt thatfemales had a lot to contribute regarding this topic and I asked

    DATA ANAYLISIS!

Q1-The theory behind asking people weather Japan is

environmental friendly is that so we can grasp the general

overview of how generally people view this country. This is very

important as we will know how this country is perceived. Whenasked people agreed to this question and it was liable stated.

Q2-the second question was based on the fact of how much

government plays its role within the hospitality industry. Is it

supportive and does it want tourism? People responded to this

question in a favorable way and stated that government should

be helpful and supportive. Does the government create barriers

    or not.

Q3-this question was based on the fact that Japan really

supports and carries on its culture and tradition so I felt that we

needed specific information regarding how people think Japan

is perceiving its guests. Are all tourists being treated well and

    showed the hospitable Japanese gratitude.

Q4-foreign investment is wanted everywhere so this question

targeted the fact weather Japan wanted the best of it or not?

The current scenario was really well seen by people and then

judged so overall people thought it could be better

Q5-almost every country which wants to advance in the sense

of tourism wants good infrastructure and this question stated

as such, when asked even people agreed to the fact that Japan

is a rapidly technological expanding country so the response

was favorable and yes it would help its sustainable tourism

    industry.

Q6-the exploitation of children and laws are to be followed and

rules made for them are to be obeyed this question aimed for

the general public that are they lean on towards the point that

they are obeying the rules or not and whether they want them

to be applied. This was again very well taken by general public.

Q7-this was another question meant for the general public in it

was stated weather the peoplesdecision should be taken in or

not. Usually plans are made under the concern of governmentbut this question sought out the point that the publicsconcern

and suggestions should be taken in too.

Q8-this question was made to raise and ask people question

that do they actually know enough about sustainable tourismand would they want to know more? If yes which was the

response then seminars and exhibitions should be held

frequently to make people aware of the environment and how

they can play their part to protect it.

Q9-this question aimed for us to gain knowledge on where does

the general public see current tourism for Japan? As there have

been recent events like the earthquake people do state more

developments are in order. This question well specified it.

  • 8/13/2019 Japan Acknowldgenent

    17/20

Q10- this question was an important one indeed as it specified

that do people think that tourism can flourish or not after

taking all the actions, and people did reply in a well way by

agreeing that if steps are properly taken they can increase the

    countrys GDPand tourism rapidly.

    METHODOLOGY

Procedures used in making systematic observations or

otherwise obtaining data, evidence, or information as part of a

research project or study. The method we have used is of a

qualitative nature. This method was quite useful for us because

this allowed us to get an in depth view. We also got to collect

peoples view by asking them questions and gaining their

    perspective.

STRENGTHS OF USING QUALITATIVE RESEARCH METHOD

Qualitative descriptions can play the important role of

suggesting possible relationships, causes, effects and dynamic

    processes.

Qualitative research adds flesh and blood to social analysis

    SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

"Sustainable tourism development requires the informed

participation of all relevant stakeholders, as well as strong

political leadership to ensure wide participation and consensus

building. Achieving sustainable tourism is a continuous process

and it requires constant monitoring of impacts, introducing the

necessary preventive and/or corrective measures whenever

    necessary.

Sustainable tourism should also maintain a high level of tourist

satisfaction and ensure a meaningful experience to the tourists, raising their awareness about sustainability issues and

promoting sustainable tourism practices amongst them. "

    RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

  • 8/13/2019 Japan Acknowldgenent

    19/20

Responsible tourism is like sustainable tourism, however as

often the word sustainability is often overused and not

understood, responsible tourism has been adopted as a term

    used by industry

Responsible tourism is any form of tourism that can be

consumed in a more responsible way.

    "Responsible tourism is tourism which:

minimizes negative social, economic and environmental

    impacts

generates greater economic benefits for local people and

enhances the well-being of host communities

improves working conditions and access to the industry

involves local people in decisions that affect their lives and

    life chances

makes positive contributions to the conservation of

natural and cultural heritage embracing diversity

provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through

more meaningful connections with local people, and a greater

understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues

provides access for physically challenged people

is culturally sensitive, encourages respect between tourists

and hosts, and builds local pride and confidence

Of all these procedures are taken in and by the willingness of

government and people not only japan but every country can

make an eco-friendly and sustainable tourism! This was afun

project to do because we only did not find what peoples

thoughts were but got into detail of what everyone wanted by

a simple questionnaire.this gave precice answer and easy to

    understand remarks.
