January's speaker is Kathy Sturdevant who is is a senior US history specialist who has won local, state and national awards for teaching excellence. She is currently a professor at Pikes Peak Community College.  Her program will address urgent steps that anyone can take to research, record and preserve their family history. Family photos, documents, personal recollections and oral histories are more urgent to save than online searches. This illustrated presentation will help anyone preserve their history and the easiest way to do that.

PRESIDENT’S CORNERWelcome to the year 2020! May it be a happy, healthy year for all of us.Thank you all for a great showing at The American Legion for our Christmas Program and Luncheon. Fun was had by all.Kudos go to Deb Yost for organizing the speaker and to Margaret Nestor for presenting it. The program was excellent.Also, thank you to Barbara Morris for agreeing to Co-chair Facilities and to Verna Love for accepting the vacant Secretary position. My heartfelt appreciation to you both.We have a speaker(Katherine Sturbevant) coming to our January function. She is a History Professor at Pikes Peak College. Let's all make her welcome and learn something interesting at the same time.We get the warmest welcome whenever we go to the Inn at Garden Plaza so I hope to see many of you there.Remember to park around the back for easier access.

We made $176 in ticket sales at our December luncheon.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue Laughlin, Mary Jo Shaffer and Nancy Dunbar who helped with tearing the tickets. This is greatly appreciated by the gals selling the tickets.  The ladies who signed up to bring an opportunity gift for the January luncheon are:  Holly Bedell, Judy Brisbois, Sue Graham,Kathy Kruckenberg and Sandra Bischoff. 

COMMUNITY SERVICE Gayle Girouard Karen MartinOur December collection was $101. We will go shopping in January when the need is greater. Thanks to everyone who brought items for our basket.

HOSPITALITY                        Judy Brisbois               719-648-948148 members attended the excellent buffet luncheon at American Legion Post #209. The delicious holiday buffet included roast beef, roast turkey and all the trimmings. Emmy nominated and Telly Award winning Jim Sawatzki presented an outstanding program about the “Star on Sundance Mountain,” also known as the Palmer Lake Star. Local audio-visual expert, Peter Blaney, kindly set up Jim’s equipment. Jennie Jo White won the December birthday drawing. Hope to see you next month. It's time for Pikes Peak Neighbors Marathon!   We will meet at Mimi's Cafe located at 7133 North Academy Blvd.Marathon Bridge will start again the fourth Friday in January and meet through May. The dates we will meet are:  January 24, February 28, March 27, April 24 & May 22nd.  Please arrive around 9:45 A.M. so that play can begin at 10:00.

This card game is a version of Canasta and fun to play.
