Happy New Year Leapin' Volunteers!

Reader Sign Up Meeting! Monday, January 12th

9:30 am Multi-Purpose Room

This meeting is important as it is up to YOU -the volunteers- to pick the days to read in each classroom. Coordinating schedules always works better all together and face-to-face! We do realize, however, that not everyone will be available Monday morning. So, if you cannot make the meeting, please email one of us with your availability. Here are the details, and also what we need from you. DETAILS: 1. Leapin' into Literature will run from Feb. 2nd through Feb. 27th. 2. Each classroom will have books read during lunch recess once per week for each of the four weeks. 3. At least two readers are needed in each class on a given day. 4. You pick the day that works best for both of you. WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW FROM YOU: 1. Name and email address 2. Child's classroom 3. How many times you would like to read 4. Availability and unavailability We're so looking forward to our 2015 season. Thank you for volunteering; as you know, we couldn't do it without you! Sincerely, Shelly Macina Christia Hitesman [email protected] [email protected] 847-394-4138 847-788-0472

Let’s show that we have CHARACTER

and that we CARE at Fairview School

Have a and help those less fortunate than us.

The holidays have come to an end and the coldest days of winter

are upon us. We’ve all enjoyed awesome times with family and

friends in our warm homes. However, there are some in our

community who don’t have a cozy home, good food or warm clothing

during these winter days. We can help those in need with a small

token of kindness by donating hats and gloves for the homeless.

All donations will be distributed to

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter).

Please bring in your donations during the week of January 12th and

place in the box located in the foyer. Please include both men’s &

women’s hats and gloves.

This event is being organized by the Fairview PTA.

Thank you for your support!

Character counts — everywhere, all the time.

Keep collecting those Box Tops. We have already earned $1750 for the school this year! A big part of that is thanks to our local WalMart store. They donated $1,000 of Box Tops to Fairview School. How generous of them!

This year we are asking for you and your children to attach your box tops to the next page with tape. This will save our volunteers a lot of time!

IT IS THIS EASY…

1. Print copies of the next page and TAPE your box tops to it. 2. Please do not include any expired box tops and do NOT staple them! 3. Send to the office or put in the bins in the office. 4. Each sheet = $2.50 for the school!

This is an easy activity for your kids to do, remind them that doing this helps them get new gym equipment, music equipment, etc. They benefit by helping out.

Of course we won’t turn away any little baggies of box tops so if you don’t have the time to tape them it is ok!

As we brave this cold weather – don’t forget to cut off the Labels for Education UPC’s from the back of all Campbell’s soups and other products!

Make sure the UPC is included with the labels you submit. Without them it doesn’t count!!!

Correct! Wrong!

Keep Clipping This Winter

Last year we were able to buy the school gym balls, a ball equipment cart, paper shredder, pencil sharpeners, DVD games that they use on indoor recess days and even a microwave. Every little bit counts! Keep clipping and sending in!

Kindergarten Enrollment

District 57 will be utilizing an enrollment and registration process for kindergarten for the 2015-

2016 school year. There will be three components to this process: an online portion beginning on January

5th, enrollment at Westbrook School beginning January 20 and an online registration in Spring. In order to

enroll in kindergarten, children must be five years old by September 1, 2015. All District 57 kindergarten

students attend Westbrook School, 103 South Busse Road.

January Enrollment

Online Pre-Enrollment Intake

Beginning on January 5th, 2015, our Online Intake will be accessible to parents on our District and

Westbrook websites to submit basic information and download forms of interest. This required, online

component allows for a more efficient experience during our in-person enrollment portion.

In-Person Enrollment

For the second portion of this process, parents will need to come to Westbrook School on January 20,

2015 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During this time, parents will be required to bring in your child’s

original birth certificate and proof of residency: state-issued picture ID, two different current utility bills

for two consecutive recent months and either a copy of a lease, monthly mortgage statement or current

tax bill. Incoming students need not be present.

Spring Registration

Parents who have completed the enrollment process in January and proven residency will be allowed

to take part in the district online registration scheduled for Spring. This step will give kindergarten parents a

chance to review and update information collected in January, as well as pay necessary fees. Additional

information about May Registration will be sent out at a later date.

Dates to Remember:

January 5th: Online Intake open (links on District and Westbrook websites)

January 20th: Westbrook Enrollment for all Kindergarten Parents - 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Circle of Friends Registration 2015/16 Our Circle of Friends Pre-School Program is beginning registration for the 2015/16 school year. This program provides a naturalistic early childhood environment that is rich in language and literacy experiences and recognizes children as active learners. Our program combines children with and without special needs in a developmentally appropriate pre-school class. Registration for the 2015/16 Circle of Friends Preschool Program lottery will be on Tuesday, February 3 through Thursday, February 5, at the Westbrook School office from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Students currently enrolled in the program will be guaranteed enrollment for next year. Our AM and PM sessions will include children ages 3 to 5 (multi-age/multi-ability). Every consideration will be given to AM/PM requests. Spots are limited and students will be enrolled using a lottery system. Only residents of District 57 will be accepted into the program. On February 9 and 10, 2015, parents will receive a phone call confirming or denying acceptance into the program. If denied, parents may choose to have their child put on a waiting list. Written verification will follow. An application is complete only when a completed application form, a completed Home Language Survey, an original birth certificate (will copy and return original), and a registration fee of $100 are all received in our office.
