NEW YEAR’S TRADITION BLESSING OF HOMES Source: Catholic Customs & Traditions by Greg Dues
One popular religious tradition since the Middle Ages has been associated with the Feast of the Epiphany: the blessing of homes with holy water and incense. The ritual calls for a priest or parent to mark, with ‘blessed chalk’,
the inside of the main door with the initials of the Magi and a code of the current year connected with crosses: 20 C M B 19
Another explanation of the initials (C-M-B) is that they are the first letters of the blessing: Christus mansionem benedicat (Latin for “May Christ bless the house”). This weekend, on the Feast of the Epiphany, we will ‘bless chalk’ and have it available after all Masses for you to take with you to bless the entrance
door of your own home.
Please Note: The Giving Tree Committee will NOT be
collecting any cards or envelopes after Christmas this year. Thank you!
OUR HEARTFELT THANKS . . .
We are always so grateful to all who share their time and talents with our parish throughout the year; but especially during this Advent and Christmas time, we are especially thankful to all those who have taken the time to make our liturgical celebrations that much more special—
To Terry and Michael Manning, Mary Ellen and Bob Gallagher, Candy Church, Adam and Maria Sarna and Tom and Fran Diffley for decorating our church in such a beautiful way. The transformation of the altar from Advent to Christmas has certainly added to our joyous celebration of the arrival of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
To Mark Sowinski for continuing the family tradition of decorating the outside of our Church for the Christmas season, for the lighting on our outdoor Christmas tree, Nativity silhouettes and especially for his creativity and generosity in construction of the HOPE, JOY and new FAITH sign this year.
To Traci Smith for taking so many wonderful photos of the Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00pm and capturing the participation of our young people, parishioners and visitors as we celebrated the birth of our Savior.
To all our Choirs: Adult, Bell and Children’s, led by our Music Ministers, Dawn Donnelly and Grace Schmiedhauser for making all our liturgical celebrations so spiritually powerful, uplifting us with song.
Thank You for all the teddy bears and other stuffed animals that our parish col-lected to donate to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson and to Mrs. Sue Mach and Mrs. Alice Giliberti for deliver-ing our donations.
WE ALSO WISH TO THANK OUR MANY... Eucharistic Ministers
Lectors Altar Servers
Ushers Ministers of Hospitality
Faith Formation Catechists and Aides Committees and Volunteers
all who selflessly serve our Church in so many ways throughout the year.
If we left anybody out, please forgive us; you know who you are and more importantly, God knows who
you are and from God’s big heart we thank you.
