“In the nineteeth century, knitting was prescribed to

women as a cure for nervousness and hysteria. Many new

knitters find this sort of hard to believe because, until you

get good at it, knitting seems to cause those ailments.

The twitch above my right eye will disappear with knitting

practice.”

Charity Endeavors

I have enjoyed my position as Charity Coordinator. I’ve met several people along my adventure. I have truly enjoyed it.

Congrats to our next candidate!

Nuttin’ But Knittin’

You Know You've Been Knitting Too Much When … 1. Your own immediate family starts avoiding eye contact when you want to talk about new patterns you've found that they might

like!

2. The T.V. station goes off the air.

3. You measure your kids in stitches per inch.

4. You realize you have not seen your husband in a week.

5. You go to sleep and continue your project in your dreams.

6. You knit in your sleep.

7. You can no longer focus and your shoulders start to ache.

8. You run out of yarn.

9. You get "rug burn" on your finger from the yarn!

10. When the dust bunnies tickle your ankles.

11. You feel nervous about finishing a project and lost without a project to start.

12. You close your eyes and see your current project.

13. You pick up your project again, only to see that what you were knitting is totally, totally wrong!

14. You have tendinitis in your wrist and the doctor tells you to back off for a month!

15. You fall asleep.

16. You can't straighten your pinky finger.

17. Your fingers go to sleep.

18. You go to take your son to baseball practice and realize you've brought your knitting but forgot your son!

19. You look up and your eyes still see stitches.

20. You're still doing the pattern in your head while you wash the dishes.

21. You dream about correcting mistakes.

22. You stand up and find out you can't walk because your legs are asleep.

23. You can no longer focus your eyes to view anything past your lap.

24. You lose the feeling in your hands!

25. You practice with utensils at the dinner table.

26. Your hands have more muscle than your legs.

27. You wake up from a dream about knitting to find you've been knitting!

28. Your stash becomes manageable.

29. Your husband calls himself the Knitting Widower!

Tip of the Month Winding a Center Pull Ball of Yarn:

More often than not, it's the end of the day when I decide on a project and I don't have time to wind the yarn at the store. Here is a great way to wind your yarn into a center pull ball!

1. Uncoil your hank of yarn and hang it over a dining room chair.

2. Find the end of the hank and drape it over your index finger.

3. Using the yarn from the hank, create figure-8s around your index and middle fingers.

4. Continue wrapping the yarn in figure-8s around those 2 fingers - and be careful not to cross the yarn over the original end of the hank.

5. Once you've created a good sized core of figure-8s, you can start to wind the yarn around that core.

6. Now that you've wound the entire hank around the core, tuck in the end and you've got a center pull ball!

So, grab a fresh hank of yarn and give it a shot - you never know when you'll need to wind it yourself!!

Info on Patsy is forthcoming. Welcome!

How long have you been knitting? Knitting—less than a year; crochet—about a ear and a half.

What do you love about knitting? There is always something new to learn.

Any other hobbies or passions? Traveling, history.

You may be surprised to know this about me . . . I love books!

2013 Fiber Festival

Friday, January 25 - Sunday, January 27

at the Powerhouse (213 S. 14th Street, Oxford MS)

Admission: $1.00 for a 3-day pass

We are over the moon about our 3rd Annual Oxford Fiber Arts Festival - a fun-filled 3-day celebration of fiber and fiber artists with

furry beasts! Every vendor is back (in bigger booths), and new vendors are joining us. The workshops are amazing and designed for

those who knit, crochet or have never touched a fiber, and kids can take part in free activities (the kumihimo braiding has a $1.00

supply fee). Demonstrators will be on hand to show how fibers are cultivated, without harm to the animals, from llamas, rabbits, al-

paca, goats and sheep. Weavers and spinners will be on sight during the event.

The event has something for everyone. Learn how fibers become functional works of art, create your own work in one of the classes,

or bring the family to experience all the different activities.

Knit1 Oxford is delighted that the Hampton Inn Conference Center is offering special rates to festival goers. Call them at 662-234-

5565 and mention "Fiber Festival" to take advantage of this great deal.

A Gathering of the Guilds hosted by

Traditional Skills & Fiberworks Guild at the West Tennessee Research & Education Center

605 Airways Boulevard, Jackson, Tennessee

April 13, 2013, 10:00–4:00

In the spirit of Roc Day1, join us for the first

A Gathering of the Guilds

A social event to unite spinners, weavers, and knitters from the Mississippi River to the west and the Tennessee River and beyond to

the east.

Why?....Why not!!!!

Many of us belong to one or more guilds representing one or more fiber disciplines. We attend meetings, maybe workshops, but

rarely outside our small circles. This is an opportunity to expand your fiber friends network or perhaps to put a face with a name on

Ravelry or Facebook. It’s an opportunity to see what everyone else is working on...what’s new...or what’s new...again! It’s a chance

to find out what other guilds, within a reasonable travel distance, are doing and are offering.

• The event is limited to 100 participants, including vendors.

• A registration form will be sent in early January 2013.

• PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AGE 15 OR OLDER.

• ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NO WALK-INS THE DAY OF THE EVENT.

Join us for a fun filled day...

• We encourage you to wear something you’ve spun, knitted, or woven...sure to generate interest and spark conversation.

• We invite you to bring items you’d like to swap or sell for our Swap and Shop Table...think stash reduction or passing on an

item you thought you couldn’t live without but now can’t remember why! This can be yarn, fiber, or equipment... If you just

REALLY don’t want to take it home with you, mark it as FREE.

• Inspire others! Bring your latest hot-off-the-loom, -spinning wheel, or -needles project for our Show & Tell Table..

• Bring your money! We will have vendors from across the area with all manner of fiber goods to entice!

• Feeling lucky? Perhaps you’ll take home one of our terrific Door Prizes donated by our vendors.

• Lunch will be provided.

Ryan Gosling Relaxes By Knitting Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling has an unusual way of unwinding after a long day on set - he likes to knit.

The actor picked up a pair of needles for his role in the 2007 drama Lars and the Real Girl and admits making "oddly shaped scarves" has since become a hobby.

He tells Australia's Gq magazine, "I did this scene in Lars and the Real Girl where I was in a room full of old ladies who were knitting, and it was an all-day scene, so they showed me how. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life.

"If I had to design my perfect day, that would be it. And you get something out of it at the end. You get a nice present. For someone who wants an oddly shaped, off-putting scarf."
