Third Sunday of Ordinary Time The Gospel of Matthew reveals to us the author’s con-cern to teach us that Jesus fulfills all prophecies of the Old Testament. Jesus walking in the region of Zebuln and Naphtali recalls the prophet Isaiah’s prophecy that a light will shine upon this region. This light is Jesus him-self coming to teach us what the kingdom of heaven re-quires of each of us: the repentance of sin. To receive God in all His love and to enter into heaven requires that we, through the Grace of God, repent and let go of our old and sinful self, and say yes to the man or woman God sees in us. God wants us to be a new person through his grace. We see this newness being given to the first disciples who are called. God calls them to con-tinue being fishers, but only this time fishers of men. God wants that are life be used as the means from which grace and love will be given to others. I pray for the grace of true repentance of sins for each and every one of us.

Juan Aguacate
