Happy New Year Silverado!

We hope you enjoyed the holidays. Now that the new year is upon us, it’s time to start planning our 2018 events! Why not make one of your new year’s resolu-tions to be more involved in the community? We are looking for a treasurer and grants coordinator to join our board. We are also looking for volunteers to help plan our events. Please email info@silveradoca.ca for more information.

We continue to stress that the storm pond is incredibly dangerous and should not be walked on. Please discuss this with your children as we have had many reports of kids playing on the ice. Ice on storm ponds is weaker be-cause of washed away road salts, and water levels change rapidly which makes skating and other winter activities dangerous. Why not check out our skating rink instead! It’s located by the community garden at Silverado Drive and Silverado Blvd.

We would also like to encourage safety in other areas of our community. It certainly feels like crime is on the rise, but it’s important to remember that Silverado remains one of the most low crime communities in the city. There are still things you can do to keep your homes and belongings safe. Many crimes are simply crimes of opportunity and by making sure to lock your doors and removing valuables from your car, you are already dis-couraging theft.
