PRESIDENT’S REPORT It seems hard to believe that Christmas and the Festive Season are nearly over for another year. I hope that for each, Christmas is a happy and joyous occasion with family and friends. We now look forward to what 2015 has to offer, and we wish all a healthy, happy, and rewarding year.

This past year went so quickly that we must wonder where it did go; it seems only a short time ago we were celebrating the advent of 2014, now here we are ready to go into 2015, and the year starting with an impromptu BYO lunch at Lake Canobolas in Orange on New Year’s Day for those who would like to attend.

Looking back, December started on Thursday, 11th with the mid-week outing to the Beekeepers Inn at Vittoria, mid-way between Bathurst and Orange. A number of cars gathered at Cook Park for the run, departing to Vittoria via Millthorpe, to meet and greet those members who journeyed from Bathurst. With about 30+ members and partners gathering at the Inn, we were first treated to an interesting conducted tour of the brewery and commentary before adjourning to the restaurant for a delicious lunch, and the usual socializing and banter, which extended well into the afternoon. It was great to see that member Merran Olson was able to make the outing, and Merran, we look forward to you being able to join us wherever possible on our events. Following the lunch all too soon it was time to depart on our respective ways.

Four days later, on Sunday 14th, a number of members and partners from Orange gathered with a similar contingent from Bathurst and surrounding Blayney areas at the Total Tennis Complex in Blayney for the annual John Arter Memorial Outing and Christmas Party at Abercrombie Caves, On arrival at the complex, we all soon settled in for the relaxing and extended morning tea and the usual intermingling and chatter prior to departing on the trip to the Caves for the traditional Christmas Lunch. On arrival at the Caves, the cars were parked, in the shade wherever possible, and everyone soon gathered in the various groups for the general socializing and catching up on the news. It was not long before the meat and sausages were sizzling on the BBQ, with everyone gathering into groups and sharing the various tables to enjoy the meal and the great fellowship for which the Club is renown. After the meal, those attending were welcomed and thanked for making the trip, and all were wished a Merry Christmas and Happy Festive Season. It was then time to make the 2014 Club Person of the Year Award. At this time, we acknowledge the vision of David and Dawn Smedley and Rod and Leonie Wykes for coming up with the idea and the provision of the trophy. David and Rod were asked to come forward and make the award to the 2014 recipient. After a short speech, David announced Alan Mitchell to be the recipient of the John Arter Memorial Trophy for 2014. As the majority of members would be aware, Allan is our Treasurer and the man responsible for the healthy financial situation of the Club, and is one of the founding members, along with the 2013 recipient, Paul Hingston, and the initial President, the late John Arter. From all of us, Alan, congratulations, and well deserved. Mick and Shirley, our sincere thanks for the organisation of such a great day, and for your efforts in arranging the provisions for the lunch

Following the presentation, the owners of the Triumph cars decided it would be nice to have a photo of the five Triumph cars present, 3 TR4’s, one TR7, and 1 Stag. The owners of the Capri’s then decided that they did not want to be out staged, so they also lined up their five cars for a photo shoot

During 2015 plans are in hand again for the usual activities that we have each year, with the Australia Day celebrations (I haven’t heard where as I prepare this report), but it will be advised in this Newsletter, followed, for those inclined, by the Bathurst Swap Meet on Sunday, 1 February, the Gnoo Blas Display Day on Saturday, 7th February and their district tour on Sunday, 8th, then the Wellington Vintage Fair and Swap Meet on Sunday, 1st March. On the long weekend in June, Grenfell will be the venue for the annual Henry Lawson Festival. But before I jump too far ahead, firstly the year commences with the mid-week event on Thursday, 8th January to Hassens Walls in Lithgow, followed by the Annual General Meeting on the following Sunday, 11th January at the Bloomfield Country Club in Orange.

As we commence 2015, I wish to extend a very sincere thanks to all members for their support during 2014 and their attendance at our events. Without this support we could not exist. I would also like, on behalf of everyone, to extend a sincere thank you and our appreciation to the Management Committee for your dedication and hard work, which is reflected in our solid and sound position, and to the 2015 Committee, our best wishes for a successful year.

Again very Best Wishes to all members and family for a Happy, Healthy, and Successful New Year.

Until next month, keep cool, smooth roads, and happy and safe motoring Charles Stammers

December 14th Sunday – ASCC Christmas Party at Abercrombie Caves (Report by Mick Buckler)

This was a very well attended event with twenty-four members cars and their support crew turning out with members coming together at the tennis complex in Blayney for morning tea a chat also to inspect the latest car acquisitions. Charlie Stammers Mercedes-Benz 350 SL created a great deal of interest, Chris Bayliss’s Toyota 86 coupe ,which I am sure will become a very popular model in the near future. There was Bono Marinovic’s Ford Capri Red Back Spider that he bought as a donor car, but decided to rebuild it instead. He has done a great job, congratulations Bono. Then there was David and Amanda Dyson Holland down from Dubbo with their BMW Z3 (I would like one) Doug and Dearne Witherdin’s MGB looked very British with the chrome luggage rack and wicker picnic basket. Whenever we gather at this type of venues, the passing public like to stop and have a look at our cars which I find very gratifying, it shows that the interest in sporting cars is out there. After an hour or so it was time for us to strike off for the Abercrombie Caves picnic area, travelling along some nice roads with a few bends just for fun. On our arrival we were met by the new park ranger Stewart Bremner who had reserved the shelter for us and put the billy on. The grounds were in beautiful condition with the sun filtering through the trees. What better setting could there be for a summer time get together? Members soon got to work preparing the tables with seasonal tablecloths and goodies. Stewart Blowes got the BBQ fired up with the support of Charles and Roy, so, soon the smell of steak and onions was starting to drift around the picnic grounds and the queue started to form. Shirley had been busy handing out raffle tickets and everyone was in the mood for some Christmas fare of which there was plenty. As the afternoon rolled on time came to draw the raffle this year’s celebrity was none other than the star of fancy dress Roy “Rocket” Riley, looking resplended in his fine seasonal attire. Anyway, he stuck his hand into the bucket and managed to pull out his own number for first prize, a very fine hamper put together by Peter Moras. This is not the first time this has been done as John Arter did it some years ago. Second prize for a twenty-five dollar fuel voucher went to Richard Gardoll and third prize, the leftover steaks (uncooked) went to Brant Weily, who generously shared them among the members. By now the time was getting on and it was time to start packing up say our goodbyes and strike off in various directions homeward after another great day out. Members attending on the day were: Bono Marinovic & Thomas Martin, Ford Capri: Stewart Blowes, Triumph Stag: Dave & Dawn Smeadley, Jaguar XJS: Linc & Vicki Hewson, Ford Capri: Paul & Annette Hingston, Triumph TR4A: Chris & Judy Bayliss, Toyota 86 GT: Mick & Shirley Buckler, Triumph TR4: David & Amanda Dyson-Holland, BMW Z3: Rod & Leonie Wykes, Nissan 300Z: Doug & Deanne Witherdin, MGB: Roy & Sheila Riley, Ford Capri: Richard & Marianne Gardoll, Volvo 1800ES: Brant & Brenda Wiley, Lotus Elan: Peter Single, Triumph TR4: Kevin & Annette Neville, Ford Capri: Brian & Ann Holden, Ford Capri: John Baker, Westfield: Tony & Judy Reppen, Triumph TR7: Jim & Ginny Mather, Datsun 260Z: Charles Stammers, Mercedes SLK350: Alan & Cherylin Mitchell, Triumph TR4: Peter & Sue Moras, Modern: Allan & Cheryl Evers, Modern: I would like to thank all members for their support during the last year and look forward to your company next year, may it bring you all you wish for .regards MICK BUCKLER.

The comments, views and opinions expressed in this newsletter are not necessarily those of the club As we are drawing near to the end of our financial year there are no new members to report. The club currently has 160 financial members. With the commencement of our membership year in January, fees will become due. Due to the strong financial position of the club, Committee are proposing to recommend to the AGM, that fees for 2015 stay at the current levels - $30 for single member and $40 for two members in the one family. The attached membership renewal form reflects this approach in anticipation of the AGMs endorsement. Please note on then form the Club’s Bank Account details. This will enable renewal via Direct Debit. Please use your surname and your membership number as reference, as there are several members with the same surname in the club.
