Jan. 23 - May 30, Double Exposure - AFRICAN AMERICAN BEFORE AND BEHIN D THE CAMERA Double Exposure showcases vintage photographs from the Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s historical collection of art and artifacts with photo-based art by contemporary African-American artists. This landmark exhibition comprehensively explores the African American experience through an examination of representation in photographic works from the 19th and 20th centuries. It highlights African American history, as well as the history of photography and includes photographs, albums, and cased images, as well as contemporary art that incorporates vintage photographic imagery. NEWS-JOURNAL CENTER AT DAYTONA STATE COLLEGE www.DaytonaState.edu/venues/njc.html Jan. 28, 7 p.m. The Capitol Steps Presented by the Daytona Beach Symphony Society, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded 29 albums, including their latest, Barackin' Around the Christmas Tree and Obama Mia!. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials. TRAFFIC SCHOOL Florida 4-Hour Basic Driver Improvement Course (BCI & TCAC) If you have a Florida Driver's License OR you received a ticket in Florida, then the 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement (BDE & TCAC) course is for you! By taking the class, you will not receive any points on your record for the current violation, your insurance will not increase as long as there is no accident associated with the ticket (statute 318.14 (9), and your safe driver status will be maintained. Under Florida law, you may elect to attend a basic driver course in any 12-month period but no more than five times in any 10 year period. Florida 4-Hour DATA (Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness ) Course All first time drivers in the State of Florida are required to take the Drug Alcohol Traffic Awareness (DATA) course before applying for their license. By taking this online course, you will learn about how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to drive, laws and responsibilities, safe driving techniques, and how to increase your awareness on our roadways. Florida Boating Safety Course Boating courses provide online instruction on how to safely operate a marine craft and get a boating license. If you are under 21 and operating a boat that has 10 hp or more, you are required to take a safe boating course. This curriculum meets state requirements for basic boater education and includes a final exam approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the United States Coast Guard.
