Inclement Weather
With the temperature becoming colder in the evening, and the sudden changes of weather we experience at this time of
year, we would like to remind you of our winter weather procedures:
• When conditions reach -20 Celsius or colder including the wind-chill factor, students will be kept inside for recess or
lunch breaks. Students must be prepared to go outside if the temperature does not fall below this temperature with the
wind chill.
• All students should be well prepared for conditions caused by low temperatures and high wind chills and should not
be left unattended at bus stops or spend any extended period of time outdoors under any circumstance.
• Parents should form an emergency plan with their children so they have clear instructions about what to do if the bus
does not arrive. Cold weather or heavy snowfalls can result in bus schedules being unavoidably delayed. Buses will
run as close to schedule as possible but delays do occur and should be expected.
• If parents /guardians cannot ensure the safety of their children to and from school, the child should be kept at home or
other arrangement made for the daily supervision of the child.
• Children should not be dropped off prior to (8:45am) or picked up after (3:45pm) supervision.

Parking/Drop Off Zones
The parking lot at St. Isabella is reserved for
staff and those requiring accessible parking.
In order to ensure the safety of all, we ask
that visitors and guests park along the street
where legal. There are many parking spaces
along the street close to the school
playground. The drop off zone inside the
school fence may be used for quick drop
offs. We ask that cars not park or wait while
in the drop off zone. This allows for a
continuous flow and minimizes traffic jams.

The Calgary Catholic Education Foundation is once again holding a bi-annual raffle to raise funds for learning enhancements
for the 116 schools and 58,000 students of the Calgary Catholic School District. This year, the Foundation changed things
up from cars and prizes and are offering:
$75,000 IN CASH PRIZING!
Tickets prices are $10 for single and $25 for a 3-pack (must be sold together)
The raffle will run from January 6 to February 21, 2020

1st Eucharist – Grade 2 Students
This is the year that children are invited to prepare for 1st Eucharist. The following workshop may be of interest to you to
gain greater insight into what the parishes are doing for the immediate preparation of the sacrament and as a faith
development opportunity for yourself as a Catholic educator. The details of the event and how to register are below.

Not even the cold weather could diminish our spirits at St. Isabella School this week…
A huge thank you to all of our staff, students and parents who made this week successful. It is not easy being stuck
indoors, but everyone remained positive and worked together to ensure that everyone was kept warm and safe. Despite
the weather, the following activities took place:
Basketball – congratulations to both our Sr. Boys and Girls Basketball teams who represented us so well at Prince of
Peace School at their tournament this past week. A shout out goes to our Jr. teams who, although had their game
cancelled due to the weather, showed commitment and team spirit through their preparation and practice. As always, we
appreciate the efforts of our various staff and parent coaches for giving so freely of their time.
Many thanks to all of our teachers for running Games Club, Book Club, Badgers for Change – Student Leadership, and
Crochet Club this past week. It was nice that students had places to go and activities to engage in when we are required to
stay inside.
Finally, we would like to ensure that all parents are aware of our upcoming Parent/ Trustee Forum taking place at Bishop
O’Byrne High School where special guest, Michael Chiasson—speaker, musician, television host and writer—will speak
on the parenting in a distracted world. Please RSVP the school if you are interested in attending.
