January 17, 2012 Cutting the Leaves and Measuring + Marking + Drilling the Side of the Stem What I did?? Today I continued to finish cutting the leaves, which did not take too long. I then continued on to measuring and marking a 90° angle on the two ends of the leaves so that once I cut it and also create a rectangular hole, the leaf would fit into the side of the stem and is more likely to be able to hold on a bit of weight. This is what the finished version of one leaf. Then, I measured and marked exactly where I would put the leaf on the stem and marked a rectangle. I have to drill some holes in first to ease up the chiseling later on. I took a bit of time to find a drill bit that is the size of the rectangle and try to place that into the pedestal drill. Once I had everything set up, I started to drill the first side of the stem. And that is all I have done so far. These two pictures show the rectangle that I marked up that would fit the leaf in and the second picture is when I was trying to find the right size drill bit.

Cutting the Leaves and Measuring + Marking + Drilling the Side of the Stem

What I did??Today I continued to finish cutting the leaves, which did not take too long.

Tools. Equipment. Machines.– Apron, goggles– Pencil, eraser, tri-square– Pedestal drill, small drill bit– Copping saw (to cut up the leaf)

– Straight file (to file a right angle on the leaf)

Were there any changes? What’s Next?Everything is going according to design so far so no changes have been made. I would have to drill the other side of the stem and then I have to chisel the box into a good fit for the leaves.

Learner Profile and Emotions/ Feelings.Today I did ask for help a few times and also ask my friends to help me because I forgot how to, and has never, change the drill on the pedestal drill. I was a bit clueless at first but then Eileen and I managed to put the drill bit in but I still don’t know how to set up the rest of the things on the drill.

This is what I have accomplished so far and I am proud of it :)Eileen said that by putting the flower on the box like this, I could make a clock or a storage box. Weirdly, I have thought about that but I would

need something to hold my accessories more.
