It appears that Jane prepared her block by appliquéing caps to four mountain shapes, then piecing them together, and applying them to another piece of background fabric. I chose to make four melons, connect the tips and arranged the circle shape onto the background letting the tips meet the diagonals of the background square. More detailed instructions can be found in the .pdf file, JAS A03. The melon size is..length-1 15/16”, arc of a 2 3/4” circle.

Difficulty Hard
Paper Foundation and Appliqué
Number of Pieces = 14
This one was one of the most interesting to try and figure out how to make. I paper pieced most of it, then appliquéd the tops of the cones to the border of the center square. You will need to do “y” seams when joining the outside pieces together. The final step was to appliqué the melon piece. It is well worth the effort, and not really that hard when taken piece by piece.

This one is a little tricky, because of the slanted seams. You will need to do “Y” seams to join the corners. But, after you have done some of the others that have lots and lots of pieces, this one will seem easy.
