Lead design architect for The Breathe Building, a 10,000sf health and wellness center, yoga center, event space and café in Southeast Portland, OR. Rehabilitation of, and addition to, a 90 year-old industrial building. Planned as the first Living Building Challenge-certified yoga center in the US. Under construction, completion in Summer 2015. Lead design architect for Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden, a biodynamic winery in Southern Oregon. Design of a 2600sf Passive House and Net-Zero Energy residence, and the nation’s first Living Building Challenge-certified tasting room and wine storage building. Under construction and slated for completion in Fall 2015. Orchard Street Passive House in Southeast Eugene, OR. Eugene’s first and only Passive House. 1150sf award-winning residence set in a lush urban pocket farmstead focused on food independence for the owners. The project’s PV system exceeds the home’s yearly electrical power needs by more than 80%. Completed in 2012. Lead Passive House consultant for St. Vincent dePaul’s award-winning Stellar Apartments, the nation’s first certified Passive House affordable multi-family housing project. Eugene, OR. 12 Sustainable high performance LEED-Gold certified townhouses arrayed around a shared garden space. Ranging from 1250 sf to 1420 sf. Part of a one-acre community-centered sustainable mixed-use commercial-res-idential development. This new school, based on Quaker principles, rein-forces a strong and positive identity as a community beacon for extraordinary sustainable education and environmental principles.

It integrates construction strategies for exceptional energy efficiency, healthy environment, and earth stewardship goals. It incorporates low-maintenance materials and building systems that combine great functionality with outstanding operational and maintenance characteristics.

Responding to the owner’s specific desires, though the Heron Building is primarily influenced by American urban traditions, important European influences are found in its dramatic entrance tower and the carefully crafted detailing throughout. The colors are inspired by the sun-baked earths, reds and ochres of the Italian hill towns in Tuscany. The complex is designed to appear as a series of smaller buildings, built over time as neighbors, forming a larger whole, typical of early twentieth century com-mercial development. The ground floor was designed for restaurant and retail use and the upper floors house professional office suites. Large recycled glue-laminated beams were used throughout.

The small, elegant and sustainable Urban Farmstead Passive House maximizes the potential of a typical urban lot. Every square foot responds to the existing features of the site to feed and house its owners while minimizing water and energy consumption. With a 5.5kW PV system, this Passive House is a Net-Positive Energy building. This exceptionally small, exquisitely crafted building features beautiful details in every principal construction method, including stone, earth plaster, recycled old-growth wood, stucco, wrought iron, and welded steel.
