Plan for the 4-H Speech Contest Now January and February are the times to promote the 4-H Speech Contest. The contest will be held on February 10, 2011, at CSU-Pueblo. Several levels of speech participation are provided 4-H members including impromptu, interpretative reading and regular speeches. Public speaking is one of the most valuable life skills 4-H teaches! A speech workshop will be held on February 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Extension Office. Details on Page 6.

4-H Foundation Annual Meeting and Dinner When: January 25, 6:00 p.m. Where: Rosario’s Restaruant Cost: $16.50 RSVP: By January 20 The Pueblo County 4-H Foundation Annual Meeting will be January 25. The Foundation would like for you to be a part of its efforts to support Pueblo County 4-Hers and activities. We will have committee sign ups, plan some simple fundraisers for the year and ask for any new ideas people may have. Dinner includes: coffee/tea, buffet, dessert and gratuity.

IFYE Delegate in Pueblo County 2010 IFYE (International 4-H Youth Exchange) Representative, who’s recently traveled to Germany, Kelly Moyer, will be in Pueblo County and available January 31 and February 1 & 2 for presentations to your 4-H club or community group. She will be scheduled to speak at schools in District 60 and 70. If you think your school or 4-H group would like her to do a presentation, please contact Carol in the Extension Office as soon as possible.

The Selection of Trips and Awards Did you know that many of our special trips outside the county and state require youth to complete and turn in a County Report Form? And, did you know some of the most prestigious 4-H awards Pueblo County gives require youth to complete and turn in a County Report Form? Report forms have been, and still are, the best way for 4-H members to show their community service and leadership experiences, awards, community activities and project growth. They are also an excellent record keeping tool. As youth prepare college, scholarship and awards applications, they are able to use all the information that’s been compiled in their report form – instead of trying to remember and re-create their community involvement. Filling out a report form takes some time, but once you start, it’s a matter of updating it each year and well worth the work!

Usage Requirements for the Fairgrounds The Colorado State Fair again has a decreased amount of staff, due to budget constraints. They have requested we continue the following protocol for our use of the facilities at the Fairgrounds: The State Fairgrounds is closed on Mondays through

April 2011 You must make all building reservations through the

Extension Office. All reservations are on a first come, first served basis. Reservations/requests and building set up instructions must

be made at least two weeks in advance of the event, using the appropriate form from the Extension office. If you cancel your event, you must notify the office and your

club members. A club representative must pick up a key at the State

Fairgrounds, the day of the event between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Keys must be put in the drop box on the 4-H Exhibit Hall.

Staff will no longer unlock or lock buildings.

Deadlines, Deadlines, Deadlines… The Office will strictly enforce all deadlines. Remember, meeting deadlines is a valuable life skill. Our office will make it a priority to get information out in a timely manner, so that you have time to meet the deadlines. Occasionally, if we’ve gotten information late or after the newsletter has gone out for the month, deadlines will be shorter.

Enrollment Policy The following enrollment fee will be in effect for the 2010-2011 year:

A $35.00 fee will cover the enrollment for up to two projects One additional project can be added for $5.00* Enrollment fee for Cloverbuds will be $20.00

*4-H youth may enroll in no more than three projects during one year. Each 4-H member is expected to complete ALL of the projects in which they are enrolled; that means completing a record book for each of those projects and exhibiting their project (preferably at the Pueblo County Fair except under special circumstances). We understand that each 4-H member and their family has time constraints, and by taking a reasonable amount of projects that can be completed, the member will feel successful, enjoy their 4-H experience, and increase their knowledge. If a family feels their 4-H member has the time and resources to take and complete more than three projects, youth may write a brief request outlining their plan to take and complete additional projects. Requests should be sent to Pam.

Returning 4-H members enrollments are due by February 15, 2011. New member enrollments and add/drops on the Drop/Add Form are due by March 15, 2011

The re-enrollment deadline for current 4-H Members is Tuesday, February 15,

2011, at 5:00 p.m.!!

Livestock, Dog and Horse Policy Reminder REMINDER WHEN ENROLLING: All livestock enterprises, horse, dog, poultry and rabbit records must achieve a score of 70% or more to be eligible to show in that project or projects in the following year’s Pueblo County Fair. Youth with e-Records not meeting the minimum requirement will be given one week after the grading of books to update/correct the book to meet the standard. Your 2010 E-record score will be used for eligibility to show in the 2011 Pueblo County Fair. Anyone with a learning disability should provide us with a letter from your school Special Education Teacher. NOTE: The deadline to drop projects is March 15 by 5 p.m. If you do not drop a livestock, dog or horse project by that date, you are still responsible for completing the record book. This gives you an opportunity to set goals and plan ahead to complete your projects. You must fill out an add/drop form to drop a project.

COLORADO 4-H ANIMAL CARE AND HOUSING FORM & PREMISES REGISTRATION DUE WITH ENROLLMENTS The Colorado 4-H Youth Development Program’s policy regarding livestock is: All 4-H members with livestock and horse projects will be required to have a completed, signed, and approved “Animal Care and Housing Form for Colorado 4-H Livestock Projects” on file at their county Extension office at time of enrollment. Colorado 4-H believes this policy is a bold step forward to enhance the traceability of 4-H livestock and horse project animals in Colorado to a higher level than that of the past year. The animal care form insures that 4-H members do their own work on their livestock project animals. Moreover, use of this form captures information about species, location the animal(s) is housed, and contact information that can be used in an animal disease outbreak situation. This information will be held at the local level for use in an animal disease emergency. Each youth enrolled in livestock/animal project must complete the form and return it to our office by the final enrollment deadline of March 15. The form will be available on our county 4-H web site and was in the January 4-H newsletter. (Please note: the form also includes places for the Premises Registration number(s) from NAIS, which is still required to exhibit at the 2011 Pueblo County Fair.)

4-H Carnival & Dance - Plan To Join Us! Saturday, March 5—Creative Arts Building at the Colorado State Fairgrounds

COME ONE COME ALL to the 4-H Carnival and Dance – a fun 4-H family day and event on March 5. It’s a great time to involve all our 4-H and community families! There will be games, activities, prizes, Concessions by the 4-H Exchange Group and a Dance sponsored by Youth Council.

Carnival: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Dance: 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Please register your club’s booth(s) and pay the entry fee(s) by February 25. The cost is $9 per booth and checks should be made payable to 4-H Youth Council. Please let us know what booth you are having and the prizes you plan to give away. Clubs who have had a particular booth in the past have first priority of that booth if fully registered by February 18 (including payment and information). If a club misses the February 25 deadline, it will still be able to have a booth and all proceeds from the tickets will be donated to Youth Council. At the carnival, clubs are responsible for collection of their tickets. Each club should have a container to collect tickets. Containers will be turned in after the carnival and Youth Council will count the tickets. Clubs make 75% of the proceeds from their booth and $5 of their entry fee. The remainder goes to Youth Council. Booths may be set up in the Creative Arts Building on the Fairgrounds the day of the carnival beginning at 2:00 p.m. You will be provided one table per booth. Spaces are approximately 15 square feet. All booths must be set up and ready by 3:30 p.m. Clubs are responsible for taking down their booths and cleaning their space by 7:30 p.m.

Club Officer’s Training February 26 —10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We are hosting an Officers Training and Leadership Workshop on February 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the CSU Extension office. There will be a general session on leadership and parliamentary procedure, followed by sessions for officers — President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Reporter. Lunch will be provided! Please plan to attend! Register by calling (719) 583-6566 no later than February 23, 5:00 p.m. so we know how much food we will need! At least eight youth must sign up to hold the training.

Cloverbud Camp!!! If you are an enrolled 4-H Cloverbud (ages 5-7 as of December 31, 2010) – PLAN NOW to attend Cloverbud Camp March 24 at the State Fairgrounds. The camp will be a day of fun, food, learning and activities! The registration deadline is March 22. We must have at least 5 youth register.

4-H Camp Counselors! 4-H Camp Counselors will be chosen from an application. Applications for Camp Counselors are available now and are due in the Extension Office by Monday, April 11 by 5:00 P.M. Camp Counselor meetings have been set for April 25, May 16, May 31. More information in future newsletters.

4-H Volunteers Needed We will begin the 4-H After School program in January. If you are interested, please call Pam at 583-6566 for additional information.

Youth Fest 2011 Colorado 4-H Youth Fest is a camp for 9-13 year olds, February 11-13 near Larkspur. The cost is $110 per person. Camp is limited to the first 195 paid campers. We need to have one male chaperone for every 10 boys and one female chaperone for every 10 girls. Exciting workshops include: Bullying, Dance/Activity, Build a Boat and Nutrition Trivia (Human Tick Tack Toe). Money and health/registration forms are due February 4 by 5:00 p.m.

Door Policy For Night Meetings REMINDER: We are co-located with the District Attorney’s Office. The DA has the second highest security in the county (second only to the jail). Due to the nature of the business of the DA’s office, we are not able to unlock the doors for meetings after 5 p.m. Therefore, we will have to physically stand at the door on the first floor and let people in. Our policy is – we will be at the door 10 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. We will make strong effort to start all meetings on time. Please do not be late, because someone will have to leave the meeting to let you in. If you need to come to our office earlier than 10 minutes prior to the meeting, please call us to make those arrangements. Thank you!

SPEECH WORKSHOP February 3 6:30 p.m. Entry deadline for the speech contest will be February 4—you may turn your reservation in at the speech workshop on February 3. The workshop will include Speech, Interpretative Reading, and Impromptu. SPEECH CONTEST: February 10 The 2011 Speech Contest will be held at the CSU Student Center, 2nd floor. Rooms will be marked. The Speech Contest is a very important part of the 4-H program – teaching the art of public speaking and communication before a group. The deadline for entry is February 4. DIVISIONS: Cloverbuds 5-7 (participation ribbon only) Junior Division — 8-10 Intermediate Division—11-13 Senior Division— 14 and over All ages are based on 4-H age as of December 31, 2010 CATEGORIES: Complete rules are on the Pueblo County website. SPEECH The speeches should relate to some aspect of 4-H club work (projects, activities, benefits, citizenship, leadership, etc.). The score card includes content, delivery and articulation, fluency, appearance, gestures, eye control, effectiveness, composition, speech structure, choice of words, materials and speech value.

INTERPRETATIVE READING The reading should not be over 10 minutes. It can be one or several articles including poetry, humor, or anything appropriate for 4-H. The selection should be introduced and explained before it is presented. The winner in this category may be entered in the Theatrical Division, solo skit, pantomime or mime of the Performing Arts Contest if there are no entries in those classes. IMPROMPTU SPEECH The contestant will be given a subject or word and 10 minutes to prepare their speech. After ten minutes they will give a presentation on that subject not to exceed 5 minutes. This speech should include an introduction to gain the audience’s attention, reasons and explanation of the subject and a conclusion to summarize. Contestants will receive blue, red and white ribbons. A champion and reserve champion will be named in each division if merited. Senior Champion and Reserve Champion Prepared and Impromptu speech will be eligible for the state contest.

Demonstration – Performing Arts – Creative Cooks – Cake Decorating Contest Day – April 9

It’s time to prepare for Contest Day! This year, Contest Day will be held April 9 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. Hopefully it will be a great opportunity for many people to try something new. You may enter one or more of the contests. Through our county contests, youth can qualify for the State Contests held during Colorado State Fair. The deadline for entries is April 1, 2011. Performing Arts Contest — 4-H Auditorium Youth may enter Dance, Theatrical, and (or) Musical Divisions plus Master/Mistress of Ceremonies Category. It’s a great time to show off or try out your talent! Pueblo County always has a tremendous turnout during the State 4-H Performing Arts Contest during State Fair. Winners in the county contest qualify for State Fair! Demonstration Contest — Creative Arts Building

Any 4-H member may enter the contest. Demonstrations are related to a project in which they are enrolled. Refer to "Leader's Guide to 4-H Club Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks" Booklet L91002. Copies may be ordered

with manuals or obtained from the Extension Office. The demonstration or illustrated talk should be 10 minutes with 5 minutes allowed for setup and take down. A team (two members) demonstration should be 10 minutes. Juniors or beginners should not be expected to give a

long or complicated presentation. Posters, projects, or any type of visual aids may be used in these presentations. Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate and Senior age divisions will be used in this contest. The Danish System of judging will be used with the top county winners going on to state competition. (Cloverbuds

receive a participation ribbon and do not go to State Fair) Cake Decorating Contest — Creative Arts Building All members enrolled in the Cake Decorating Project are eligible to compete. Members must enter in the project unit in which they are enrolled. Contestants must enter in appropriate unit and age division, of junior, intermediate or senior. The object of the event is for youth to decorate a cake while being judged. All contestants in a unit work at the same time. Judges circulate to observe methods used. Project exhibit rules apply to the contest. Creative Cooks Contest — Creative Arts Building Youth may enter as an individual or as part of a team of two people in either regular division or *Colorado Specialty Foods Division. The contestant will plan a menu for a meal (breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, barbecue, picnic, high tea, campout, sports game, holiday or birthday party). Set one place setting appropriate for the meal selected. Each contestant or team is allowed 48” square for their display area. All props must fit within the designated space. Contestants provide their own card table as part of their presentation. A poster detailing the entire menu must be included (no larger than 8 1/2 “ by 11”). Participants prepare and bring only one food item from the menu, to be sampled by the judge. Judging is based on the exhibitor, his or her understanding of meal planning, menu, nutrition knowledge, prepared dish, table setting, food safety and creativity. *Contestants in the Colorado Specialty Foods must use one or more of the following “Colorado Specialty Foods” - Amaranth, Anasazi Beans, Blue Corn, Quinoa, Mung Beans, Edible Soy Beans (tofu), Sunflower Seeds, Popped Wheat, Sesame Seeds, Black Turtle Beans, Bolita Beans/Adzuki Beans, Wild Game Meat, Fish and Poultry (if using dear or elk meat, a copy of the Chronic Wasting Disease test result is required).

District Retreat Registration Due March 3 South Central District Retreat is March 18-20 at Silver Cliff Ranch near Buena Vista and is open to 4-H youth ages 13 and older. The cost is about $115 and includes two nights lodging, two breakfasts, one lunch, one dinner, activities, dance and workshops. The camp has an outdoor hot tub an hot springs pool. Money and registration/health forms are due in the Extension Office no later than 5 p.m. March 3. The Pueblo County 4-H Foundation has budgeted $850 for those attending. The money will be divided equally among the number of youth. Youth may not drive themselves to camp. If you are interested in chaperoning our county at District Retreat, please let Vanessa know. We need one male chaperone for every 10 boys and one female chaperone for every 10 girls. Parent Leader Group will pay for one male and one female chaperone to attend. Youth interested in running for either a District 7 office or South Central District Office must be present to be nominated to run at the February 2 Youth Council Meeting. We can nominate one Pueblo County youth for each office in District 7 and the SC District: president, vice president/treasurer and secretary. Holding an office is a lot of work, but a great leadership experience!

Call to Action! Ready for Another 100 Years and 4-H Day at the Capitol

LDC and 4-H Day at the Capitol are in the planning phases so please mark your calendars for January 29-31, 2011. The conference will be held at the Renaissance Denver Hotel. Rooms will be $99 per night. The conference registration is $150 per person. See full details in the December 2010 newsletter. Registration forms and money are due by January 13. The cost is $250. The package includes: LDC program costs, two people per room for two nights, two breakfasts, team meeting tracts, lunch, banquet, speaker and a dance. Additional costs are: two lunches and one dinner. The Pueblo County 4-H Foundation provides $1000 toward LDC in scholarships.

Dog Show Dates The Pueblo County 4-H Dog Program has the following dates reserved for local dog shows: May 21, June 18 and August 6 – to be hosted by Greenhorn Kickers 4-H Club – the show will once again be held in the Colorado City/Rye area.

Sponsors Needed The Pueblo County 4-H Dog Program is looking for possible sponsorship of awards for youth for the 2011 Pueblo County Fair and the 2011 Colorado State Fair Dog Trials. If you know of an individual or business that would like to sponsor some of these awards, please get in touch with Erin Sneed, Donna Darnell, Gail Kingrey, or Carol Kuhns.

Dog Show Test Dates This year, there will only be two test dates available for youth to pass the 2011 Dog Tests. Those dates will be May 12 and June 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall at the Fairgrounds.

State Dog Committee Meeting Please mark this date down on your calendar. The next State Dog Committee meeting will be Saturday, April 2, 2011 in Douglas County at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. More details will be provided when the date is closer. Connie Cecil from the State 4-H Office is still accepting applications to be on the state dog committee so if have not filled one out, please do so and return it to Connie as soon as possible. Copies of the application are available in the Extension Office. She is trying to get representation from across the state. If you are worried about traveling, she is working on doing some connect sessions and using conference calls not only for times between meetings but during our face to face meetings.

Levels Testing The levels program is a valuable tool for leaders and youth to determine (regardless of age) how you can evaluate a 4-H members’ experience as a horse person. Levels testing is an important part of the 4-H Horse Project. Youth should be encouraged to “test up” if you as a leader or trainer feel they are ready. Contact Carol in the Extension Office for more information on levels tests.

Horse Rule Book The rule book for 2010-2011 will be the same as last year. The cost of each book is $8.00. Each 4-H family should have a copy of the rulebook.

NATIONAL WESTERN STOCK SHOW DATES FOR 2010: JANUARY 8-23

Horse Committee Meeting Our next 4-H Horse Committee Meeting will be held Thursday, January 6 in the Extension Office Meeting Room at 6:00 pm. Many important changes are being discussed at these meetings – please feel free to attend and give us your input – this is YOUR horse program!!!

Competitive Trail Riding We are moving along with our plans to introduce Competitive Trail Riding to our 4-H program. Carol ordered books from Penn State which have come in and it looks like a great program. Tom Sheppard has agreed to be superintendent and Carol has contacted a local veterinarian who is willing to help with this project. We will keep you informed about progress about this new opportunity.

4-H Horse Safety Clinic Dates Set The Horse Safety Training Guidelines for 2010-2011 will be as follows: • If you are a new member to 4-H, you MUST be evaluated for

the 2010/2011 4-H year. • If you are a transfer from another county and/or are a Pre-

Level, you MUST be evaluated for the 2010/2011 4-H year. Remember - you DO need to bring your horse, your equipment and helmets must be worn. Dates for these clinics are March 26 and April 23. The Horse Committee is working on some changes for these clinics. Plans will be finalized soon. If you have any questions, please contact Carol in the Extension Office.

Time For Horse Tests As we get closer to testing dates for Spring, Summer, and County Fair Horse Shows, please be advised that test dates will be May 10 and June 7. Test times will run from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, then a short business meeting at 6:30 PM and those who could not make it at the earlier time will be allowed to test after the business meeting.

2011 Horse Show Dates We have contacted the fairgrounds and made the following reservations for upcoming Horse Safety Clinics and Horse Shows. Horse Safety Clinics – March 26 and April 23 Spring Show – May 14 & 15 Summer Show – June 11 & 12 County Fair – July 8, 9 & 10 or July 9, 10, & 11 – depending on the decision of Horse Committee and Fair Board. State 4-H Horse Level Rater’s Training

Carol is working with Fremont County in planning a date to host a level rater’s training in the Spring either in Pueblo or Canon City. Dates and more specific information will be announced in future newsletters. A Horse Levels Training will take place at the Logan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Center on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Workshop fee is $25.00 which includes a county fee, instructor expenses, supplies, breaks and meals. Deadline to return the registration is January 8th. Carol has registration forms if anyone is interested in attending.

Beef Weigh-In When: Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Where: TBA Please bring your bill of sale with you for the brand inspector. If you have questions regarding ownership, you may call the brand inspector, Gary Fellhauer, at 948-42331. Remember, in order to show market beef at the county or state fair, you must be present at the beef weigh in. Youth must also be enrolled in the 4-H Market Beef project by that day. Your COOL form will be due at weigh-in.

2011 Livestock Test Policy & Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) Policy

1. Everyone must take the test once as a Junior and once as a Senior. 2. If you had a test score of 80% or better on your 2011 Livestock test and are not 11 or 14 4-H age this year, you DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE TEST FOR THAT SPECIES THIS YEAR. However, you must take the test to be eligible for the Supreme Livestock Exhibitor Award. 3. If this is your first year in a species, you must take the test. You must pass a livestock test for each species shown with a 60% or better. Anyone with a learning disability should provide us with a letter from your school Special Education Teacher, prior to testing. Contact the office individually and the appropriate arrangements will be made to take the test. 4. If you score at least an 80%, you will not have to take the test until you move up to the next age group (8-10 Junior, 11-13 Intermediate, 14-18 Senior). 5. The test will be over the 4-H manual (Level I for Juniors, Level II for Intermediate and Level III for Seniors.) 6. Two opportunities for testing will be provided testing: May 12 – following mandatory Showcase Sale Meeting at 6:30 p.m. – Dining Hall and 4-H Auditorium at State Fairgrounds June 20 – 6:30 p.m. – Dining Hall and 4-H Auditorium at State Fairgrounds A list of those who have tested out with an 80% is available at the Extension Office. Youth must take the Meat Quality Assurance training once as a junior and once as a senior, unless you are showing swine at the County Fair, then you must take it yearly. Two opportunities will be provided to take the MQA Training: May 7 (following weigh in) – NEW HANDS ON TRAINING WITH EDUCATIONAL STATIONS June 20 (prior to livestock testing) No MQA will be provided at the May 12 Mandatory Meeting/Testing Session All Youth enrolled in Swine must take the Meat Quality Assurance Program (MQA) yearly.

Sheep and Goat Weigh In The Sheep and Goat Weigh in will be held May 7 at the State Fairgrounds - sheep and swine barn. A special hands-on Meat Quality Assurance Program will be held following weigh in. Your COOL FORM will be due at weigh-in.

Livestock Council Meeting When: January 13, 7:00 p.m. Where: CSU Extension Office Club representatives please plan to attend the meeting. Each club is allowed two votes on voting issues. However, even if you are not eligible to vote, we will discussing County Fair items and sponsorship for Showmanship Awards.

Pork Quality Assurance for STATE FAIR AND NATIONAL SHOWS

If you plan to show swine at the State Fair or a national show, you will need to take the Pork Quality Assurance training. Two sessions will be offered: • May 7: MQA Hands On Training Qualifies • June 8: 6:30 p.m., CSU Extension Office

Swine Ear Notch Cards Swine Ear Notch Cards may be brought to the CSUE Office prior to May 7 or they may be brought to the Sheep & Goat weigh-in on May 7.

SHOOTING SPORTS Shooting Sports Certification Training

In order to be a 4-H Shooting Sports Leader, you must attend a Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Certification Training. In order to attend the state training, you must be an authorized Pueblo County 4-H Volunteer and must have attended the county orientation. Vanessa must sign your state training application – please don’t submit it directly or the State 4-H office will return it and you will not be registered. If you are already a trained leader in Pueblo County and would like to attend one of the trainings listed please call Vanessa at 719-583-6566. If you are not yet an authorized 4-H Leader, please call the office for an application, so we can begin the process of your becoming a volunteer. Background checks and orientation must be completed in order for you to register for the February State Shooting Sports Certification Training. Participants may certify in one discipline per training. Disciplines are Air Pistol, Archery, Coordinator, Muzzleloading, Outdoor Skills, RSO, Rifle and Shotgun/Trap. Registration forms will be available soon. New Shooting Sports Pilot Project – Centerfire Sporting Rifle

Pueblo County is piloting a “Centerfire Sporting Rifle” discipline for a second year. Below is a brief description of the project. For full details, ask your shooting sports leader. In order to participate in the Centerfire Pilot Project, you must enroll in Centerfire on your 4-H enrollment form. Centerfire is a county project and will not qualify for your exhibit or your shooting to go to the State Fair. You have until February 15 to re-enroll in 4-H and March 15 to add/drop projects. Remember, youth may enroll in no more than 3 projects. See the enrollment policy for details and exceptions. General Rules: Rifles will be limited to single shot or bolt action only and capable of loading one round at a time safely. Semi-Automatic, lever action and pump rifles are NOT allowed. No set or electric triggers are allowed. Factory-type stock may be altered for length only. No other alterations will be allowed. Adjustable or hook-type butt plates are prohibited. Thumb hole stocks, palm rests and heel rests are prohibited. Any safe trigger is allowed. A safe trigger is one which does not allow the hammer or firing pin release to fall except by a deliberate pull of the trigger by the competitor.

On Target With The Shooting Sports Council When: January 13 – NOTE CHANGE OF DATE 7:00 p.m. Where: Dining Hall – State Fairgrounds The next Shooting Sports Council meeting will be January 13-- NOTE CHANGE OF DATE from the normal first Thursday of every other month meeting time. This is a very important meeting for all clubs who want to have voting representatives on the Council. Clubs (see list below) must present their authorized representatives (following the qualification criteria in the Council Constitution/Bylaws) in writing to the Council at the January meeting. The Council will then elect officers for the 2010-2011 4-H year from among the new voting representatives. Please ensure that your club reps will be able and willing to attend the bi-monthly Council meetings so the Council will have the quorum required to conduct business. Council meets every other month.
