JamDown 09 is a Reggae music festival presented by GroundNation and The iLLers that will showcase seasoned reggae acts from different parts of the region, including Singapore, Philippines and Australia. For an art form that originated in the heart of Africa, it has truly found its place spanning the heart of the world- from Ska to Reggae. The event, spunn from reggae artists who has extraordinary will power to revive, will take place on 28th November 2009 at St. James PowerStation JamDown 09 has garnered far-reaching interest from renowned and seasoned artistes, many of which will be here exclusively in Singapore for the launch of what we hope will be the first of many such extravaganzas. In keeping with our universal message of One Love, we are honored by the involvement of Mercy Relief, who will be opening up a donations channel in support of victims of the recent natural disasters. We, the organizers would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners, artistes and fans for their support of the culture. Bushmen

It may sound strange to most that a reggae band would sprout from an electric scene that is dominated by the top 40s and the international arena at large. But for the young members of Bushmen, theirs was a co-existence realized by a common aim when they start performing at the International School of Singapore in 1997. Taking the assemble on the road, lead vocal and rhythm guitar Syed, lead guitar Restam, bass guitar Hassan, keyboardist Hairul, drums Sofy, and percussionist Rahman, perform live and direct to the masses at local pubs, clubs and restaurants. Appealing to younger crowd, and harking back to an older generation of musicians who built up their followers by performing live. Bushmen’s popularity soared at venues such as the Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, The American School, Youth Park and La Salle


School of Arts. The first steps towards success were embraced when the band placed second runner-up in Band Alert Contest organized by YAMAHA and MTV in 1998. The following year, the group signed a recording contract with Hunters Records(s) and March 2000 sees the released "RISE UP”. This mini album features five original compositions that are filled with lively hooks and grooves that draw the attention of local and international media and listeners. Track "Don't you worry" was also featured in the local movie soundtrack "STORIES ABOUT LOVE".


Shine

SHINE is a band composed of six individuals experimenting with their sound since 2000. The band got together in 2005,lined up by Eddie, Amin, Arman, Khai and Azmil, playing keyboard, bass, lead guitar, percussions and drums respectively. Describing their music as Reggae / Dub Reggae / Tropical, their common ideas and love for reggae music have brought them together to form SHINE. Their main influences draw from musicians like the well-known reggae star Robert Nesta Marley, Big Mountain, UB40: Britain's premier reggae band, Lee Scratch Perry who began his career in the late 1950s with Clement Coxsone Dodd and our own local band, Bushmen. Shine also came in 3rd place in The World Battle Of The Band Competition in late October 2006, being the only band that plays reggae music. SHINE is currently working extensively for numerous projects and gigs. The band hopes to broaden their sound scope and amelioration as every day comes. We don't like reggae, we LOVE it.

Jeck Pilpil & Peace Pipe, one of the country's premier reggae act, has once again hit the tracks and recorded their sophomore album entitled Mabuhay Revolution the highly anticipated release of Mabuhay Revolution is the follow-up to their self-titled debut album. Jeck Pilpil epitomizes the message of the reggae vibe - social, political, and spiritual awakening. As successors to the country’s reggae scene, JECK PILPIL & PEACEPIPE have tapped into the core of goodness for their self titled debut album from Galaxy Records. The songs produce the very same spiritual high that reggae has always been known for a sense of communicating with God, with nature, with everything pure and right in the world. It is almost as if the band presented a peace pipe each to GOD, JAH and BATHALA, with all three approving of their offering. The result is as mix of our ancestor’s natural law, giving the songs an air of righteousness rarely taken up by today’s generation of musicians. Vocalist/Songwriter JECK PILPIL even mentions "The TRUTH, the LIFE and the WAY" in DROP YOUR GUN (also available on ISLAND RIDDIMS compilation Album), as well as the beatitude "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake for they shall be called the sons of God" in Mr. Politician. For a band that dares, the rewards are great.


Dj Judgement

Hailing from the streets of Waterhouse, Kingston JA, Judgement’s Love of reggae music was instilled at an early age. An offspring of Roots and culture as the nephew of Grammy award winning artist Mykal Rose, it was certain that the culture, vibe and lifestyle would Help form Judgement as a selector. Influences of that era include the likes of Leroy Smart, Beres Hammond and Berrington Levy. As reggae music constantly


Evolves, the era Judgement clings to is the mid to late 80’s. A time When Saturday morning rituals involved mama’s fried dumpling Cooking in the kitchen whilst his father’s airing out the set (sound System) started with soul at early morning, followed by Studio One - Stretching to late evening – an array of Jammy’s, Cocoa Tea, Tenor Saw and Nitty Gritty. More recent influences range from Sizzla, Mad Cobra, Vybz Kartel to Bounty, Jay Dilla, Mad Lib, The Roots, Slum Village and Dead Prez. Judgement’s versatility is reflected in the delivery of diverse sets from dancehall to ska, underground hip-hop to neo soul, house to roots. Judgement has supported the likes of Mykal Rose, Luciano, Horace Andy, Jack Scorpio and Bushman, holds the Australian 45 Shoot Out Champion title and regularly features in local, interstate and New Zealand based reggae events. Judgement co-hosts 'Shades of Black', a 3-hour radio show on Radio Skid Row (www.skidrow.com.au) Saturday nights from 9pm-12pm (AUS EST).
