CAD & Architectural Visualization: -Using CAD programs to convey and document design ideas for architectural projects of both new construction and adaptive reuse projects -Utilizing Revit program features to prove and test architectural features and systems, particularly sustainability-related features -Using modeling programs to plan renovation and fabrication projects

Problem Solving: -Using my education as both an architect and a construction manager to complete tasks and assignments in both fields -Designing and fabricating home renovations and installations efficiently and in a timely manner -Utilizing limited school-resources in the most efficient manner to hold programs and events for students as a resident assistant

Coordination: -Collaborating in several teams (2-5 people) comprised of members from varied disciplines on multiple architecture, industrial design, and construction management projects -Planning and executing several events as both a resident assistant and an orientation leader in collaboration with co-workers and supervisors

The Magnetic Levitation R&D Center is a proposed adaptive reuse project located in Denver, Colorado. The project was completed by a group of three students from PhilaU’s Design 8 class. Each team was assigned a unique city and instructed to design a center for research and de-velopment of a new and rising technolo-gy. With Denver’s roots as a railroad city, it seemed logical for this city to house a center for the future of train technology.

The team picked an abandoned ware-house as the site of the project. The design works with the existing roof and structure to specifically adapt it to the new program. By adding more skylights and a secondary rafter system as shad-ing, sunlight is controlled and tailored for each section of the building.

The design also takes advantage of the manufacturing process. By using the ex-cess heat generated by the machinery to warm the rest of the building, the energy requirements for usage of the building is lowered.

Overall, the building aims to draw the public’s eye and attention to future tech-nologies and possibilities of trains while keeping its roots in Denver’s history.

This project began as a submission to the Better Philadelphia Challenge. After the competition submission in October, the course focused on developing our ideas and projects for a presentation at the semester’s end.

The project started by focusing on creat-ing a masterplan for the future develop-ment of the Mantua neighborhood in West Philadelphia. The masterplan was developed using a mathematical prin-cipal called a Voronoi. First, points of density were established throughout the area. These points were then utilized to develop the Voronoi, and from there suit-able areas of development were deter-mined. Using this method it was decided to develop three main spaces throughout the neighborhood: a renovated Lancaster Ave, a smaller urban public space, and a larger park space.

After the competition, the team focused on developing the large park space. (The final product can be seen in the fly- through video via QR code below) The design creates a moment along the new Mantua Greenway into which the city has already invested a large amount of resources. The space offers a variety of programming which reinvigorate the lo-cal economy, culture, and neighborhood.

The East Falls Station and Wellness cen-ter offers the residents of East Falls a modern, updated SEPTA Station, as well as amenities and services that the com-munity currently lacks. The train station plays an integral part of the commuter’s daily life. If other programs are com-bined with the station, it can become an essential community space that helps better the daily life of the average com-muter. The new SEPTA station offers a GYM, with a FOOD MARKET and CAFE/BAR as well.

The average American adult is over-weight, does not receive enough exer-cise, and does not eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables. For-tunately, we as a society are starting to recognize this as a fundemental health concern that must be addressed. How-ever, East Falls currently is not equipped to help the residents combat this issue. As it stands today, the neighborhood does not house a single gym or major food market.

The new STATION AND WELLNESS CEN-TER offers these amenities in a location that people need to visit every day for their commute. Now, it can be more convenient to grab a coffee, workout before or after work, pick up food for the next family meal and provide a play to socialize and lounge. What used to be an outdated station can be transformed into a vital public space that helps people live a balanced life of WORK, EXERCISE, and PLAY.

The attached sun space which wraps around the southern and western sides of the building, acts as a passive heat-ing and cooling device. Acting as a trombe wall in the winter which absorbs the sun’s heat and disperses it through-out the building. It also acts as a ther-mal chimney in the summer which pulls warm air out of the building.

During the Spring 2015 semester I chose to do an interdisciplinary design course with the Industrial Design Program. This opportunity allowed me to compete in two competitions for the program. The first was PhilaU’s Sprint project in which my team placed 2nd in our category. The second competition was held by the German lighting company Osram. In this competition, my partner and I were grateful to receive an honorable mention.

This semester was greatly beneficial to me as a designer. It was a unique op-portunity to step back and reflect on the entirety of the design process.

While on breaks from school, I spent my time doing renovation projects. Using a combination of my skills as an architect, construction manager, and carpenter I managed to have a steady amount of clients throughout the past few years.

Two of my more involved projects in-cluded an orignal mantel design and the overhaul of a 8ftx16ft shed for which I completely rebuilt the roof and doors along with heavy cosmetic improve-ments.

My passion for design however doesn’t stop at architecture. I enjoy using the skills I have acquired in my daily life as well. One example in particular is the razor and brush stand that I designed and fabricated (seen right). This project was particularly exciting for me. After posting a photo of the prototype online, I received overwhelming positive feedback and a number of people interested in purchasing a stand for themselves. I sold my stand to customers all over the coun-try, and even in Australia.

Some other activities I enjoy are cycling, studying film, and playing the trumpet.
