Jade related problems……. China is the biggest producer of jade and has also life threatening mines which can leave a miner

injured for life.

Sometimes the explosions inside the jade mines happen with no warning. Miners speak of broken arms, crushed fingers and broken ribs.

But because mining job is risky, only desperate and unprofessional workers work in the mines. The workers are often exploited and taken advantage of by the mine owners.

Miners work for 6 to 7 days a week on an eight to twelve hour shifts with almost no break for a meal! They make only $120 per month.

Health problems…

When a worker is injured, he gets the cheapest medicines rather than the better ones.

According to a relief team, large scale jade mining is destroying the environment and causing severe health problems for the local residents.

The mining companies are dumping debris into the local rivers which has resulted in flooding and contamination of water.

The unfriendly working hours has caused workers to suffer from fatigue and major disruptions in family and personal lives.

Most mining companies do not have sufficient health and safety measures.

Economic issues…..

Since jade is an expensive mineral, many merchants now cant sell jade and they have nothing for future business.

Some raw jade stones were illegally transported from the mines in china to Burma on dec 8, 2008.

The price for jade now in the market is below average($42,541).

Most of the jade businessmen in china had to sell their jade products on auction at a very low price.
