Page 1: Jack the Ripper

I do not believe that Carl Feigenbaum or Mary Kelly had anything to do with the murders in

Whitecastle. The murders Kelly committed were extremely personal and specific in nature. Jack

the Ripper’s murders were gender specific, but he did not personally know his victims. I think

Francis Tumblety an American “so called” doctor whose first job was sweeping floors at an

abortion/hysterectomy clinic is the most likely suspect. London officials were aware of the

American Doctor lodging on Batty Street after the landlord found bloodstains and a black bag

containing obscene drawings. Some believe Tumblety sold "pornographic" drawings early in

his life. However, they may have just been doctor’s pamphlets. Tumblety divorced his wife

after discovering she was a prostitute, and was said to despise women after the fact. This gives

him motive. London police arrested Tumblety for engaging in homosexual acts at the time of the

murders in Whitecastle. None of the murders appeared to be sexual in nature. Known

handwriting samples of Tumblety were compared to the one authentic letter written by the killer,

and were deemed to be an excellent match. A Lawyer who knew Tumblety claimed he had a

collection of preserved uteruses. London police, possibly disgraced by the fact that they had the

killer in custody and released him on bail, may have tried to hide it. Though they tried to have

him extradited back to England, the United States would not comply due to lack of evidence.

The outcry to catch the killer along with the fact that they let him get away may have been

enough for Scotland Yard to distance itself from Tumblety. The same was not true for America,

as they documented Tumblety extensively. Newspapers at that time were often similar to

tabloids today, but I still believe that there is some truth to the writings published about him. At

the time of Tumblety's death, his inventoried belongings included some extremely expensive

jewelry, $1000 in bonds, over $430 in cash, and two imitation gold rings like those stolen from

Annie Chapman at the time of her death. Marriot based his findings about Carl Feigenbaum

purely on speculation. There is significant circumstantial and even more importantly some

forensic evidence that points to Francis Tumblety.
