HUNTING SAFARI CHARTER

GAMEBIRDS AND PLAINS GAME HUNTING WITH A NON-HUNTERS ITINERARY Pretoria ● Mareetsane ● Kameel ● Warrenton ● Kimberley ● Bloemfontein ● Pretoria

This eight-day sojourn, which includes a hunting and non-hunting itinerary, commences in Pretoria and winds its way to the western reaches of South Africa.* Upon arrival on day two in Mareetsane, an area characterised by dense, uncultivated bushveld, the guns set off for a full day of shooting while our non-hunters enjoy a game drive in the Mafikeng Game Reserve with lunch in the field. The train continues southwest towards Kameel in the Vryburg area where the guns enjoy a full day of shooting while our other guests venture into the Kameel area for a game drive with lunch in the field. The train travels south to the predominantly agricultural town of

Warrenton where hunters revel in another full day out. Our other guests visit the fascinating McGregor Museum featuring displays of natural history, the environment and the origins of humankind. After lunch at the Protea Hotel, guests visit the William Humphreys Art Gallery. This is an important cultural oasis that houses a collection of traditional South African works including San rock art as well as the works of 16th- and 17th-century Masters.

Continuing in a southerley direction, the train arrives in Kimberley for a two-day stay in the area. As the centre of one of the world’s most famous diamond rushes, there is an opportunity for all our guests to visit the Big Hole and savour the 1870s atmosphere of the Mine Museum and its surrounding village. After lunch at the Kimberley Club, guests can take a tour of the taxidermy and rehabilitation centre at Wintershoek followed by a traditional barbeque dinner at a local estate. Plains game hunters may choose a full day of shooting or join the Kimberley tour.

On day six the hunters set off for a full day in the field while non-hunters enjoy lunch and a game drive at the Mattanu Game Reserve. The train then continues east to Bloemfontein, popularly known as the City of Roses.

Day seven has the guns busy in the Kloofeind area located in the middle of the Motheo region. Our other guests enjoy a tour of Bloemfontein visiting the Anglo Boer War Museum and battlefields, the Fourth Raadsaal and the Women’s Monument followed by lunch at the Emoya Hotel and Spa. Guests can also visit the world-renowned cheetah breeding facility, indulge in an optional spa treatment or explore the Oliewenhuis Art Museum set in a magnificent garden in the city.

After a memorable week in the bush enjoying all the opportunities the area has to offer, the train departs for journey’s end at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria.

*This is our proposed itinerary and date. We also have a Zimbabwe option. Within reason, and subject to availability, the chartered train can go wherever there is a railway line in Southern Africa. Email [email protected] or visit www.rovos.com.
