The Board adopted a motion that Dr. Kees be denied a resident's traininglicense.

Lewis William Hagna, M. D. , Marion, North Carolina

Following review of information presented, the Board adopted a motion toinstitute the proper procedures to prefer charges against Lewis William Hagna,M. D. , that he be so notified in writing, and that he be advised that he willbe given a hearing on such charges that will be presented against him.

FLEX Test Committee Findings

Dr. Galusha reported to the Board that the failure rate for FLEX with regardto first-time U. S. graduates is 1.31. He further stated that North Carolina isnot actually recognizing two examinations because FLEX and National Board areequivalent.

American University of the Carribbean

The Board reviewed information concerning this school. The Board adopted a

motion that the Executive Secretary check with Ray Casterline regarding the AmericanUniversity of the Carrlbbean and that no further action be taken at this time.

Carolina Cardiology Consultants, P.A.

The Board reviewed a request for approval for the corporate name Carolina Cardio-logy Consultants, P.A. The Board adopted a motion that this request be approved.

One Month Rotating Internships

Dr. Reynolds reported on these internships at Forsyth Memorial HospitalThe Board adopted a motion that Dr. Reynolds pursue this matter further.

The Board adopted a motion that the August, 1981, Board meeting be heldin Winston-Salem at the Hyatt House August 13-16.

The Board elected Joyce H. Reynolds, M. D. , to be President of the Boardand Bruce B. Blackmon, M. D. , to be Secretary-Treasurer.

The Board discussed the recommendations of the Sunset Commission.

EMS Hearing Report

Dr. Pagter, Bob Bailey, and Mark Eddinger reported to the Board on thehearing held on July 31, 1980. The Board adopted a motion that the formerEMS regulations be repealed and that the new Regulations with typographical errorscorrected and changes in language as worked out with the Executive Secretaryand the Board's Attorney be adopted. The Board adopted a motion that thenew EMS Rules be distributed to all Board members along with memorandums to securepositive responses from Board members. The Board adopted a further motion thatthe EMS certificates be changed to show "approval. " The Board adopted a motionthat the Office of Emergency Services be requested to draw up stipulations concerningKnotts Island as well as encouraging Cardiac Technicians to upgrade their prepara-tion, and that these stipulations be submitted to the Executive Secretary of the Boardof Medical Examiners, so that these recommendations may be reviewed by the Boardat the October meeting. The Board adopted a motion that the new Rules andRegulations include some provision for special situations that may develop andthat may not be in total compliance with the Regulations. The Board adopted a motionthat the Joint Subcommittee be allowed to review MICN applications as long asthe Board of Medical Examiners is ultimately responsible. The Board adopteda motion that an MICN who is currently certified will not have to meet initialcertification requirements in future recertification.
