Acknowledgments

After the fungicidal qualities and the possibilities for practical application of triphenyltin compounds had been recognized, many studies were undertaken within the last 25 years defining mainly their physiologic effects in warm-blooded animals and the environmental behavior. The purpose of this book is to compile the extensive, scattered, and sometimes not easily accessible literature, reflecting the original results to the maximum extent possible. The goal was to give as complete a survey as possible over the present state of research in this field.

This project was made possible through the generous support by Hoechst AG, which provided a large amount of literature and also unpublished experimental results. Above all, lowe thanks to Mr. G. Horlein, Mr. S. Gorbach, Mr. B. Strecker, and Mrs. U. v. Preuschen. I also want to thank the many authors and publishing houses that permitted the reprint of parts of their published material.

I am especially grateful to Mr. K. Hartel, who reviewed the manuscript and helped with supplements and improvements mainly in the toxicological and agricultural sections.

Finally, I would like to express my thanks for the translations of foreign literature to Mrs. G. Munk, La Tour de Peilz (Spanish), Mr. H. Behr, Frankfurt/M -Hoechst (Japanese), Mr. K. Beyermann, Mainz (Russian), Mr. E. Noam, St. Legier (Hebrew), Mr. V. Sarcevic, Frankfurt/ M-Hoechst (Yugoslavian), Mr. J. Silbereis, La Tour de Peilz (Italian), Mr. F. Vlacil, Praha (Czechoslovakian), and Mr. J. Zarebski, Krakow (Polish).
