Trip to Japan

Message from Dean

Total Comprehensive Japanese style of learning!MJIIT was founded upon an initiative by the Malaysian and Japanese governments to establish an institution that offers Japanese-styled education in Malaysia. It is a newly established institute strategically located in UTM Kuala Lumpur. Being in UTM, MJIIT enjoys all the facilities within UTM including established research facilities and the support of experienced academic staff.

The institute offers undergraduate programmes, postgraduate and R&D activities leveraging on the strength of Japanese technology and education system which is based on intensive research, close relations between academicians and students, professional ethics and high-value work. MJIIT works closely with Japanese universi-ties and industries to create a strong culture and holistic approach in its programmes.

Welcome to the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), a new and vibrant entity at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur, situated about 1.5 km from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Established on August 1, 2010, MJIIT draws its strength from the long established research university UTM, and a consortium of 26 well-established Japanese universities and is supported by various Japanese agencies.

MJIIT combines the advantage of the Malaysian systematic outcome-based education with the research-intensive approach of Japanese education. The relatively autonomous nature of MJIIT allows for greater innovation and creativity among its academic staff and students.

5S and KaizenSeiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke - the learning concept of MJIIT, aimed at developing fundamental working qualities such as teamwork, responsibility, and resilience.

Exposure in JapanSelected undergraduate and postgraduate students will be given opportunities for a short-term attachment at industries for industrial training and at research laboratories for joint supervision in Japan.

K.E.S PedagogyUtilizes the “Knowledge-Experience and Self–Directed Learning” pedagogy which focuses on more class contact in lower years, and encourages independence in studies in later years.

Ningen-ryokuProvides a holistic approach for comprehensive character building, with emphasis on skills in communication, problem solving, responsibility and ethics in the programme curriculum.

Unique Approach to Empower Minds

Synergistic partnership with academia and researchers in 26 Japanese universities and 5 associate members from the Japanese government agencies and industries. Opportunities are available for joint student supervision and industrial experience in Japan. This experience will make MJIIT graduates highly employable.

Japanese Language and Culture Studies

Industrial Training at Japanese Companies

Programme to Cultivate Human Skills as Engineers

Activities to Foster Teamwork and Communication

Students will have opportunities to acquire communication skills in Japanese in the classrooms, equipped with environment to support self-learning of Japanese Language. Students will also have opportunities in learning Japanese culture, such as ethics and disciplines, through various activities including tea ceremony, seasonal events, and seminars.

All students will undergo industrial training for 12 weeks on completion of the 3rd year. Selected students will be given chance to experience training in Japan or at Japanese industries in Malaysia.

To cultivate professional knowledge and discipline, MJIIT offers its unique “Ningen-ryoku Programme” that incorporates the elements of environmental sustainability, ethics, and entrepreneurship. Platform such as MJIIT Leadership lecture series as well as Marzuki Khalid Industrial Museum at MJIIT will also enable the students to understand the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of a professional engineer.

The final year students are encouraged to join an i-Kohza (research group) to work in a team to gain hands on guidance from their seniors as well as academic staff. MJIIT also encourages participation in extra-curricular activities, including joining student circles (societies) of their interests, to cultivate skills in team work and promote a sense of responsibility.
