Gil Rozadilla, coach of Southern League champion Manual Arts,

calls his ace tackle Willard Scott, "Outstanding in all phases of the

Gamet~ while opposing Southern League mentor Jim Pendleton of L.A.

High calls the 6-foot, one-inch, 228-pound lineman, "The best and

strongest lineman I have seen in years."

This was enough recommendation tor the Helms prep board of selec

tion to name Scott the Southern League's top performer for 1964. The

Board saw fl~ to name only two manual players to the all-league team,

although five of coach Rozadilla1s boys made the second team. Los Ang

eles mathematically tied Manual in league play, 4-1, and placed five

players on the first team, with three on the second.

ShOWing the league's strength, Manual and Lo s Angeles met in the

semi-final playoff round, with the Romans winning, 14-7 0 L.A. had de

feated Eagle Rock 40-13 in the first playoff round, while Manual had

disposed of Roosevelt, 40-20 0

All-League selections have been made by Helms' City Board of Athletics since 1937, with seroll awards going to the honored players.
